    Choosing the right windlass

I also have the Lewmar Pro Fish. 30' of chain and 400' of 1/2" rode. The Lewmar has never failed. It is not the free falling model. I always go forward and deploy the anchor by hand when overnighting and always cleat the rode off. If just stopping for lunch, check out a fishing hole, etc. I will...

You can also get the solder on type lugs. That's what I use on #6 wire and larger.

    Fuel filter installation

Rig it like Spike said. You can put a valve on kicker side if you want, but I never have on three different boats and never had a problem. Also coat "O" ring on cartridge with vasoline and it won't stick on you.

    Cockpit Hatches

Has anyone removed the cockpit hatches on a CD25? I would like to remove them this winter and inspect fuel tank and anything else under there. Also need to remove old sealant around hatches as it is molded pretty bad. What sealant would be best to use that wouldn't mold? Thanks

    Boats vs. float planes.

If I remember correctly, once a plane is on the water it is considered another watercraft and has to abide by the rules.

    Sloppy Teleflex steering

My past experience with hydraulic steering ( sea star, bay star) is the seals only last 3 ~5 years and need to be replaced. I don't know if its the salt or road grime getting on the polished rod and damaging the seals or the seals getting hard from setting all winter. I picked up a seal kit the...

    Control Cables

I lost reverse during the middle of my last 4 day trip, and suspected it was the control cable where it enters the engine cowling. I didn't want to start tearing things apart being 60 miles from the harbor, so I left it alone. After arriving back home, I found the cable had broken inside the...

    Another Prop. question, Sorry...

Check your tach. Even with a 14 pitch prop, I wouldn't think you could spin your motor up to 7 grand.

    Fresh water tank

I have a 2007 CD 25 with the fresh water tank mounted in the stern right up against the transom. The boat is way too stern heavy when the tank is topped off and extra fuel and gear onboard for a 3 to 4 day outing. I'm having to run with the trim tabs 3/4 of the way down or better.I was wondering...

    Airmar 260 Transducer

I installed one a couple years ago on my 25. It is a big transducer. Haven't noticed it affecting anything. Sure was an improvement over the p66. Now I can watch shrimp crawling into my pots...... :D

    CDory rubbing on wheel covers

I have the same problem on my King trailer. Even if the boat is centered after retrieving it will eventually ride up against left or right side wheel fender while traveling down the road. I have side loading guides also which I keep about one inch clearance between them and the boat to keep from...
