Seasport rumor

'm just worried about the One True Brat, B~C. Did he dump his Chrysler product for a Toyota Prius? Sort of ironic....

Nope. Still have the Dodge. The little car gets 46 mpg. That's one and one third gallons of gas for my daily work commute. Plus, the brakes and gas pedal work. It's cheap to drive and when I get to feeling too dorky I can pick it up with the John Deere and dump it in the back of the Dodge to haul around for a while (and still pull the boat and pass the nearest Duramax).

To get this hijacked thread back to the subject, I heard a rumor that Honda is looking to buy Toyota. They'll get just the assets and the name. They will not honor warranties.

I see that the Honda Element has a 'fly-by-wire' 'electronic gas pedal'!

Isn't that what got Toyota in trouble?

:sad

Yeah, I got to experience the technological marvel of fly-by-wire on a boat with three engines. (What do you mean: the steering goes away when you lose the starboard engine? :disgust )

I think that one would be hard pressed to find a new car with a mechanical connection between foot and throttle plate..... Even our smarts are throttle by wire.

Dave,

I'm green with envy after looking at that video. We only have the 2500 HD Duramax with Allison Tx and can attest to the fact that with approx 9Klbs behind I can do very bad things to the rear tyres without really trying

Oh and to be thankful you were on the water or ground Mr. Jim. Hope the cat was not on board with you..... Ya know, our government awards contracts to the lowest bidder who contributed the most to "campains" and lobbyist sometimes....and resulted in some un-fun deadly fly by wire....or...no longer flying by wire..... but crashing events.

Life is good when ya can just shut down all power and coast and float....even if the boat and some pants have to be cleaned.

Hey Brother Merv! Hope all is well. Now do we have any thing on current builds rather than a 2007 data or post bail out competitions? But, having said that... I still am very happy with my old 2005 Non-Bail out Ford F250 that I have pulled boats cross country in a few times. Ol Roger (SENSEI Roger) enjoyed our climb with a heavy load of undisclosed content up that long, pretty good grade hill just on the other side of the bridge going over the Colombia River up in the NW corner. It worked for me to set her on cruise control at 65mph and just keep on keeping on.

I know Ford went to a dual turbo gig...and the fuel economy was worse than the National Debt... and ...are again to come out with ...or have come out with somethings new... Now..who owns those motors now days anyway?? Not really important...as I still love my problem for others 6.0 diesel... and, only have about 130,000 miles on her. I guess in about another 200,000 I will have to start some good research again....but, back to Bill's hijack... how big does it have to be to haul the dogs?

Nice video and info but i will never own another bail out car or truck, ever. Got two fords and a Toyota and will only own ford s or anything but gmc ever again.

if you think drive by wire is great check out the new Boeing fly by wire planes coming to a airline near you.

I have no complaints about my '05 Ford F-250 crew cab. Pulls both the boat/trailer & my car hauler without issue and sits 5 adults comfortably. Five yrs old and just rolled over 50K miles.

I find it interesting the Feds are going after Toyota with both barrels, especially since they (we) in essence own GM. :|

getting back to real rumors. Cook Composites has raised the cost of the gel coat (and some other resin products) 11cents per pound, since the first of the year. (according to Trade Only Soundings) likely cause increase of prices of new boats. Not what we need in this economic environmet! My suspician is that this is slightly North of 10% increase.

I just read an article that talked about the new normal, and to expect boat prices to riuse significantly, as volume has decreased and builders don't have any reserves left to absorb cost increases while waiting for "better" times.

So the significantly reduced prices that have been around for the last year or so on distressed stock is coming to an end, as that older product is mostly gone from the pipeline. Expect fewer boats in stock at dealers, and to have to wait longer on an ordered boat.

All Airbus' have been fly-by-wire since the beginning, same with the F-16 and all new fighters. Also the C-17 cargo plane......

As far as tow vehicles go I don't think you can beat our 2000 2wd F250 crew cab with the 7.3 diesel: got it last summer for $8500 with less than 90k miles. It had been used by a snowbird to haul a 5th wheel trailer, I did have to put new tires on it though....

when I was younger I build a fly by wire Bi plane, it crashed and was destroyed on the first flight.

Costs of materials going up, taxes going up, wages going nowhere...I think our standard of living will never be as good as what we have been enjoying.
