Sam on canadian customs...

Interesting link. Clicking around on the slowboat.com site, I see that Sam is listed as one of the principals and "previously worked as" the managing editor of the Waggoner Cruising Guide.

Good luck with this new endeavor, Sam!

Jim

Good luck w/ Slow Boat Sam! Waggoner's loss.

Hopefully, you will be around for the 2017 SBS in some capacity..... we'd love to see you if you had time to stop by and visit your old C-Dory friends.

Take care,
Dan, Tanya, and Hannah

Good for Sam! Great video, and I am sure more to come!

A couple of comments--I was interested in his comment, that bear spray was OK as long is it was clearly labeled "For use against bears". In the past, there were two different bear sprays--It had to do with the labeling, and % of pepper: Note the difference in the terminology:

" 2% Capsaicin and other related Capsaicinoids
Product sold in the US and Canada is the same. The two countries just have different labeling requirements.
In the US, capsaicin and other related capsaicinoids (2%) are required on the label.
In Canada, only Capsaicin (1%) is allowed on the label."

As I read current regs, it appears that most brands will be allowed over the border. I have never been asked to see the products that I have declared.

The last few times I have gone by car, the boarder agent has asked very specifically about hand guns--and on several occasions, have noted that I have a Florida CCW permit.

Any of our LEO information appears to be available to Canadian customs. This does include any felony arrests, and DWI. I have friends who have been refused entry because they had a DWI.

Just a heads up.

Thanks all! Jim's sleuthing is correct...I'm no longer working for the Waggoner Guide, but I'm super excited about this new venture!

My (our) goal with Slowboat is to provide practical boating education to help people cruise safely and confidently. We're trying to demystify cruising and empower people to explore further. This is the first of many video presentations we're planning. Through the winter we'll be adding a bunch more (videos and articles) about all things boating in the Pacific Northwest.

Dan..now that I'm not stuck in the booth, I should be able to make it to the C-Dory gathering at the boat show! I'm also giving several free talks at the show...the full schedule is on the boat show website.

Sam,

Have all the good drone companies send you samples. Review them for us.

+1 on that!! Spent my Saturday morning pouring over all the excellent articles on Slowboat, and as a result I spent my Saturday evening trying to figure out which drone would be best for use from a boat! My conclusion: I'll stick with a handheld pocket cam for now!

But Sam I'd love to know what you are using for those spectacular photos, as well as logistics for piloting both the boat and drone if you are willing to share! Seems like all the "follow me" or auto pilot drones have a strong possibility of landing themselves in the water if you are not careful.

And congrats on Slowboat, looks to be a hit already!

-Mike
