Orca's Expedition

Hi
Well, I would not say we have bad luck, its just a long journey...

To loose me camera was just plain dumb from my site

Luckily we don't hit the reefs with orca
, just with our prop saver. :D

The first reef was not bad because it was right under the prop saver, so no damage to the prop :thup

The second one was from the side, so the prop was gone, no big deal we have 3 spare ones

I don't want to say that nobody should go to lake athabasca with a c-dory.
It was just not the right thing for me, maybe with mutch more experience with ORCA it would be mutch nicer...

So if somebody want to go there, hey we have a lot of soundings with deep water in our gps... :D

The reason we will sell ORCA is that we wont do the Inside Passage in 2008 as plant .

We have a nother Film project in Alaska going

So if somebody wants a ready to go Expedition Boat, well give us a mail :D

ORCA will get a ICOM Radar in Yellowknife. So the electronic packet will be complete
We will sell ORCA with or without all the electronic.....

Chris, tell us how the scanning sonar is working? Is it of any value, damaged by impacts, have you used it extensviely in mapping?

Thanks,

When finished you will end up kind of close to the Alaska road system. Would it be worth wile considering trying to sell the boat here rather than dragging it all the way back down to America?
Mike

Hi C-brats
There is an new update on my website :D

The humminbird side Scan works great, but just up to 7Mph.
The fishfinder function works at all speed :thup

The side scan helped us a lot to see if we are going in an boulder field or where the deep channels are.

Up to now we just have pictures from boulders...

But as soon as we find something interesting(wrecks ect.) i will post it on my website.

We have the international version !

The quality of the side scan sonar pictures are very good, but of course not as good as a scan with an tow fish side scan...

The problem to bring ORCA to Alaska is that our trailer is in Hay river....

We have people interested all over the north, so I think if we are lucky we will sell ORCA in the NWT.

But hey C-Brats first

We thinking to change our plan, instead to go on from Fort Smith, we are thinking to go to Hay river and start into the Great Slave Lake from there.

The other good thing would be that we could maybe go up the Hay river to the waterfalls :D :D :D

We will go than to Snowdrift and further to reliance in the east arm of great slave lake. The people of snowdrift have a spiritual gathering in reliance, so we really looking forward to that.

Cant wait to get my ICOM Radar installed....

Chris- Sorry to hear that you lost your camera. It was really thrilling to see your pictures on the Athabasca Sanddunes thread. It is a wonderful adventure you are on. I'm also sorry to hear that you are going to sell "Orca". It seems a shame after you put in so much work to outfit it so well. Personally, I was hoping we could look forward to many more very real and beautifully executed Orca adventures. Finally, I enjoyed very much the thread about hunting and fishing lodges. I hope some of our fellow Brats will take advantage of your excellent resource when planning their own guided adventures . Again, thanks for all the education and downright enjoyment you are providing to us. Looking forward to the next chapter..and the next...and....

Hi

Greetings from the beautiful east arm of the Great Slave Lake. :D

We are in Lutselk'e and heading to Reliance at the end of the East Arm.

Regards Chris

Hi C-Brats

Greetings from Tulita on the Great Bear River.
We are not able to go into the Great Bear Lake because the Rapids are unnavigatible with ORCA

Even the option to go around the rapids don't work, because the trailer is way to small for orca and the drop in is an veeeery old barge landing

We maybe could get ORCA in but for sure never out

So we will head on to Tuk .....

The Great Slave Lake is beautiful specially the east arm :thup :thup :thup
I can tell all , go for it... :D :D
But I have to say that without the Side Scan Sonar it would be very hard to avoid all the reefs and explore the shallow rocky bays....
The main problem is to get gas in the east arm, beside Snowdrift(Lutsel'ke) there is non

The Mackenzie River is very easy they have a lot of buys here, but even than we hid a gravel bar

Sorry for the delay of updates on my website but it is very hard to get a good working internet access...

Tomorrow we will go on to the Delta :D :D :D

Greetings from ORCA and the Crew

Chris

Hi C-Brats

greetings from Aklavik in the Mackenzie Delta.

We are heading now to Inuvik and than to Tuk :D

We will dive ORCA back from Inuvik to hay via the Dempster and Alaska HWY.

ORCA is for sale now , we could deliver to Alaska ...

The weather is getting cold now. The navigation in the Delta especially to Aklavik though all the little cannels was not easy...

the water is falling every day now...

Regards Chris & Dan

Chris & Dan - Thank you for keeping us posted on your adventures.

You have some great photos. Will you be up-dating your web site and adding captions under the later photos?

Good luck with the sale of ORCA.

Hi C-Brats

We are now the 4th day in Inuvik. We hope we can be on the 22nd in Tuk.
But we have gale warnings for the coast for the last days, really nasty weather here...

Sorry, but the update for my website has to wait a bit, because i don't have a good connection here, sorry

Regards and thanks for all your help and interest on our expedition

Hi C-Brats

We finished our 2007 expedition in Tuktoyaktuk :D :D :D :D

It is snowing here and ice is forming in the Delta...

Man, I can tell you guys it was cold , because we have no heat on board

Our truck broke down in Dawson City, so we have to buy a used one here, but the chances to get one are slime....

I still have to travel 6500 Km to Toronto with all my heavy gear

It looks like ORCA is sold to somebody up here :D

So she will have many more adventures in the north :thup :thup

Our Mokai is for sale, anybody interested???
