Hi C-Brats
We are in Fort Smith and travel the Wood Buffalo Park for a few days.
I lost my Olympus digital camera in the Sand Dunes of the Athabasca, bummer. So for the next 3 weeks or so i cant post pictures
Lake Athabasca was not easy!
This lake can be very, very rough...
We had a very bad trip out of Fond Du Lac, if we hadn't found a little cove and shoot trough some reefs, we had be on the ground f the lake..
This lake is full of reefs and shallow spots. Some of the reefs one can see only
METERS bevor The south shore has no good shelters,
so if wind comes up there is a risk of getting washed on shore
The north shore is very nice,
but has very ,very mutch reefs,
we hit two...
The Slave River is worse, there are bolders everywhere, we where lucky because of the high water, but even than we had some problems...
Would I do the Lake Athabasca again in a C-Dory?????
ABSOLUTELY NO. !!!!!!
It is
not a lake for Fiberglas Boats, this is a alu Boat lake.
What you need here is a small boat that you can beach and haul up the beach in bad weather...
Same for the Slave River.
In a kajak or Kanu it would be a nice but slow trip
Well, we see what the great slave lake is like...
We will spend some days here in the wood Buffalo Park and than head on down the Slave river in to the Great slave lake to Snowdrift and reliance in the east arm.
We have to watch, there is a flood warning because of all the rain south of here. Hope there will be just water and not trees coming....
