Hi! I've been watching this site for a few years and just recently signed up.

I grew up on the east coast spending a little time sailing on the Toms River and the Barnegat Bay in New Jersey when I was young, and I lived in Santa Cruz, on the Monterey Bay, for 10 years as a young adult. I've done a good deal of backpacking also. I love the outdoors, but I'm now into my comfort years. The right boat would provide the opportunity to experience the natural world quietly from a safe perch, sheltered from the elements while at the same time, challenge me to develop new skills. What could be better?

The C-Dory was brought to my attention by a friend, a long-time boater, after I described what I wanted in a boat. He was right. It is perfect for what I want to do on the water. So, I've had C-Dory envy ever since.

Reading the literature, I settled on the 22' as probably the right model by price and feature for me, although the description of the 25' TomCat sure made me hungry for more. In the meantime, I made a point of going to the Portland boat show each year to learn more about C-Dorys and the alternatives.

This year's show was my first chance to climb on a TomCat. Wow! What a difference 3 feet can make.(Well, I admit that size isn't the only thing different about this model.) And they also had the new 29' at the show. In the middle of the booth were a 16', a 19', and a 22' cruiser. They seemed dwarfed by these larger models.

Other boats at the show were fun to see, but don't fit what I want. (There was one James Bond type speedboat that is supposed to go 140 mph.)

Anyway, I'm not a C-Dory owner yet, but hope to be someday. In the meantime, I'm learning from you about boating, about C-Dorys, and about interesting places to see.

Thanks,

Bill Powers

Welcome to the C-Brats Bill. You have some great boating opportunities there. We've been wanting to tow the TomCat to Vancouver, WA and do some cruising on the Columbia. Hope to hear you're out there on your new C-Dory soon!

Welcome Bill,

You already know from lurking how much information and support this group can provide. If you can possibly make it come to the Seattle Boat Show. It is a great way to meet people who share your love for C-Dorys. If you cannot get there, I know that there are C-Brats closer to you who would be quite willing to give you a ride. Many of us saw our first C-Dorys at gettogethers.

welcome to the club. I hope you get the boat you want and show up at a gathereing, they are great fun.

Bill - Have you been on the water in a C-Dory yet? That's the real test for you, we would think. See how the size, handling, layout etc. of different boats fit to your needs. Just ask, if you want a ride. There are plenty of folks who would be happy to share some time afloat with you.

But first, the Seattle Boat Show next week to meet more folks - and a later Gathering where there are many varieties of boats (and folks) on the water. You can have a marvelous spring getting to know Brats and Boats - and then make your choice with more confidence. Welcome aboard.

We bought our first c-dory 22 cruiser in oct 05 here in florida .When we lived in Bellvue Wa. I've always wanted the c-dory since the early 90's . So it took us 15 years to finally get one . We kept it for 3yrs and upgraded to the cape cruiser06(venture23) We were and are happy with both boats. We love the ability of these boats from skinny water to 3-4 ft seas these boats do it all ,you will not be disppointed .

We will see some of you in Seattle this week can't wait

Welcome aboard Bill,

Even though you've seen the boats, the suggestion to go to the Seattle Boat Show and meet more of the C-Brats is most beneficial. You have some ideas about how you will use the boat; the opportunity to visit with like-minded people who have been doing what you want to do will really help with your decisions. We were torn between the 22 and the 25... at the SBS, we met folks who had owned both. When we asked the factory folks about a demo ride, a guy tapped me on the shoulder and asked if we wanted to go out on one of these boats. Not a dealer, just an enthusiastic C-Brat. He had a bit of a crazed look in his eyes, but otherwise seemed sorta normal. After telling family where we'd be, hiding our valuables, and filling out organ donor cards, we went out into Puget Sound with this guy and his lovely wife. Yep, looking at the boat show was fun and interesting - getting to see what these boats are really like on the water made all the difference. We ordered our boat the next day.

Over the past 3 years, we've had the opportunity to meet a bunch of equally enthusiastic owners. Come to think of it, most of them have that same look in their eyes. Good luck with this part of the journey; many have been where you are and can offer great advice.

Fun times ahead!

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Hi Bill,

Welcome aboard. I think that you will find the CBrats to be a great new extended family. Regardless of which CDory you choose, you're going to have fun. Where do you plan on using the boat? We like both the Willamette and Columbia, and chasing fish out of Garibaldi.

Kind Regards,

Steve

Bill-

Welcome Aboard!

You've got the bug, and in this case, it's a good one!

Lota' good advice above, and it would be great to meet you in Seattle later this week!

If not, I'm sure we'll see you around, sooner or later in your own C-Dory!

Joe. :teeth :thup

Welcome aboard Bill. You sound as if you fit right in with the rest of the outdoors types here! You will enjoy the C Dory, when you buy one. Don't discount used boats--they seem to last forever.

Welcome, Bill. Don't discount the CD25 Cruiser - there are some sizzling deals on used ones right now, down around the price of a new CD22 outfitted. The TC255 is a wonderful boat, but significantly more expensive and there are not nearly so many of them available on the used market because they are relatively new. There is more room in the TC255 than the CD25, but not so much that it justifies the price difference. What really justifies the price difference for the TC255 is the ride and handling and ability to go fast in choppy water. The TC255 wins this one hands down, and you won't find any of us arguing about that! You just have to ask yourself how important that is, because the CD25 Cruiser has great accommodations for two if you don't have to go really fast. But either way, you can't lose! Or be like Dr. Bob and have one of each!

Hi Bill,

John here...just live over in Tigard so we'll have to connect up some time soon if you want a ride. Haven't had the boat out since November and been itching to get it out soon.

I HIGHLY recommend going to the boat show this weekend in Seattle if possible and I guarantee you will not be disappointed with the folks you will meet and the information you will gather.

I joined the website sometime in January of 2005 and we purchased our boat on April 2nd that year. The day seems like yesterday and we have shared our boat with so many family and friends over the years since along with meeting the some wonderful people at the C-Dory gatherings. The nearest gathering I think will be mid-April in Cathlamet, Washington. You should swing by for a visit.

You make one post and you get all these posts back...kind of overwhelming like the first time Amy and I arrived at Lopez Island and all the arms with smiling faces reached out to help us dock. Gotta' love this group!

Good luck with your search, enjoy the website and we'll hope to see you at a gathering!

Welcome Bill,

This is a great place and as you have already seen there is tons of great advise, and good friends here. I would like to second (top the 10th power) the suggestion that you come to the Seattle Boat Show this weekend. Hey it's a 4 hour drive into a whole new life. Like JimB said, everybody there has that look in their eye, and if you get up real close and look you'll see it is the reflection of a C-dory, firmly imprinted on the cornea. It's a great time to get together and meet the "members of the pub" and see what the factory is up to, all wrapped up in a good time weekend. Come on up and lets get together, it's not to late to join. Go to the Seattle Boat Show thread from the home page, and contact Linda, make your reservation, and enjoy,

Harvey
