Hi! I've been watching this site for a few years and just recently signed up.
I grew up on the east coast spending a little time sailing on the Toms River and the Barnegat Bay in New Jersey when I was young, and I lived in Santa Cruz, on the Monterey Bay, for 10 years as a young adult. I've done a good deal of backpacking also. I love the outdoors, but I'm now into my comfort years. The right boat would provide the opportunity to experience the natural world quietly from a safe perch, sheltered from the elements while at the same time, challenge me to develop new skills. What could be better?
The C-Dory was brought to my attention by a friend, a long-time boater, after I described what I wanted in a boat. He was right. It is perfect for what I want to do on the water. So, I've had C-Dory envy ever since.
Reading the literature, I settled on the 22' as probably the right model by price and feature for me, although the description of the 25' TomCat sure made me hungry for more. In the meantime, I made a point of going to the Portland boat show each year to learn more about C-Dorys and the alternatives.
This year's show was my first chance to climb on a TomCat. Wow! What a difference 3 feet can make.(Well, I admit that size isn't the only thing different about this model.) And they also had the new 29' at the show. In the middle of the booth were a 16', a 19', and a 22' cruiser. They seemed dwarfed by these larger models.
Other boats at the show were fun to see, but don't fit what I want. (There was one James Bond type speedboat that is supposed to go 140 mph.)
Anyway, I'm not a C-Dory owner yet, but hope to be someday. In the meantime, I'm learning from you about boating, about C-Dorys, and about interesting places to see.
Thanks,
Bill Powers
