Well after 11 years of love and fun we had to say good bye to Shadow dog. Many of you knew him after 11 years of friday harbor gatherings. Above are two of my favorite picks of him. First is the day we got him. Second was about 5 years ago on new years day, it was 65 out that day. dont think we are going to get another for at least a few years.

We had to put him down on Monday. Long going illness, most likely cancer.tom_and_dog.sized.jpg

Tom,
Both of send our condolences for the loss of Shadow Dog. It is so hard to let a good member of your family go. Thanks for honoring him by your post! The act of kindness for the pet is so often a hard choice to make.

So sorry to hear that Tom. I remember him at Friday Harbor and its going to leave a hole for a while without him. Our mastiff 'Mooshoo Pork' is on her last chapter too unfortunately. It seems like the good ones never live long enough.

Tom, my sincerest condolences. Dogs bring so much to our lives and their leaving is a hole that is impossible to fill. It hurts so much that I always swear I'll won't get another. Time heals and eventually dog comes along and that needs a home.
Dr Bob is right-- what you did is an act of kindness and love.
Take care!

Tom and Susan,

We will hold Rufus a bit closer this evening. These furry ones are a part of the family; the loss leaves a big ol' hole in our hearts. We understand.

Thanks for sharing the photos of Shadow - we will always remember him sticking his head in the cockpit and little Izzy (the 8 pound cat) ready to defend her turf. The look on Shadow's face was "I was just being friendly" in response to her spitty hiss.

Shadow was a good boy and you two gave him a good life. Doing that last unselfish act of kindness for him is tough... but, they count on us to help them through.

Our sympathies,
Jim & Joan

Tom and Susan, sorry for the loss of a good friend. He was a beautiful dog, thanks for the pictures. I have seen people hold on too long because they could not let go. Yours was an unselfish act of kindness.

Regards,

Rob

I never got to meet you or Shadow Dog, but as I sit here with my "little girl" in my lap, I know that someday all too soon, we will be responsible for making her passing as peaceful and painless as possible.
I pray we will be as strong, and our love for her will overcome our desire to keep her here if her life becomes too painful.
Our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to you and your wife.
:unlove

Tom and Susan, thank you for sharing the news of Shadow's passing. I'm sorry to hear that, and I'll miss him. He was a crowd pleaser--Izzy excepted--and trundled up to me to say hi and offer a wag and a smile September 1st at Friday Harbor. He even didn't beg for a bite of the salmon chunk you gave my buddy and me. I'll remember Shadow as a polite and loyal companion, curious and enthusiastic. And a real fisherdog, too.

Earlier this year I had to put down my beloved 16 year old Buster, a self-assured bi-color who resembled a cat version of Shadow. Those are wrenching events, saying goodbye to our beautiful animal friends who love us unconditionally.

Hey You two. Sorry for the loss and the feeling that goes with loosing a friend. Met Shadow a couple of times and always the best. Hang in there.

Tom & Susan...Amy and I are very sorry to hear....Teddi will miss her old buddy...

Best memory is Shadow and Teddi playing at Blakely...

We are so sorry to hear of your loss of Shadow. May the good memories of sharing your life with him be of some comfort. Gary and Colleen.

to All,

Thankyou SO SO much for all your kind words. It really means a lot to me personally that you all LIKED shadow. We also thought he was a great dog. Adventurous , loving cuddle bug. He loved the Dock and visiting you all. he was a people dog. And i especially remember the Joy i felt lying in the berth with him reading a book while Tom fished.

I miss him so much. i would love just 5 more minute to be on the floor with him giving him a belly rub. But his last 24 hours was painfull so that would have been selfish. It is a comfort to hear you all think putting him down was a kindness ... because it was sad. saying goodbye was a little too quick.

thankyou again

Susan elliott
