Boat pricing...

Hello,
It would seem to be the start of runaway inflation. It should not take long for other industries to follow suit. In our area (suburban Phila.) the only new commercial construction seems to be for new banks; if you can believe it. I don't know who benefits from the zero prime but it isn't us. The banks are recording huge profits and I'm lucky to get 1.25% on my savings. It will be interesting what will happen in the Goldman Sach's case. I know my 401k which was smoking along then took a hit as soon as they started blabbering about the precedings against G/S. They mention Paulson and Company is that the same Paulson who worked for the Gumint?
D.D.

I was reading on another brand's owners' site the opinion that manufacturers are going to have to lower prices to sell boats. I was amazed that these guys couldn't understand that with increasing materials prices, catalytic engines on inboard and I/O boats, and lower production levels, that prices can only go up.

We have not seen an upswing in the value of used boats yet, but if new boats climb in price, and if demand returns, I woudl expect an increase in used boat values. Finding good used boats has been the challange for our brokerage business, and even on the good boats we find, we are feilding a lot of ridiculous offers.

What is scary to me is the lack of interest in the C-Dory line right now. We are seeing almost no activity on new boats. It surprises me because the C-Dory is an inexpensive boat to operate, which should appeal to many in these times.

Interesting times.

Bulletin:

We cannnot continue to spend, spend, spend, spend, spend...eventually the bill becomes so huge, it is impossible to pay off and the entire economic system collapses.
Bulletin - there's many of us who are just getting tired of the constant use of this site to promote/expound on political views. I ditto what Pat said.

 Where is a "political view" in my post you quoted? :? Seriously; show it to me, capitalize it, use GIANT red letters.

When Yellowstone posts his view about the gov't printing money, you don't quote him. :? (Go back and look; it's right there) When dotandmarty post sarcastically political "bulletin" posts over and over, you don't quhote them. :? (Go look it's there A LOT) When Pat bashes the "previous captain" of our ship....nothing. :? IN fact you AGREE with him.

Yet you seem to target me over and over. Hmmmm. Me thinks thou does protest too much. Could it be that because I disagree with YOUR politics, you think I must be silenced. Of course; anything opposing YOUR view MUST be silenced. Dissention is NOT allowed! How typical.

 Perhaps it says more about YOU than me.

Back to boats, the cost of boats/baoting and how it affects us ALL.

ok, for me, now just for me, what makes this c-brat site interesting is the diversity of subject, both on and off the water. i enjoy reading what all my friends have to say! i enjoy when c-brats post jokes, tell about family and friends and even when they reflect on politics.
i would encourage everyone to voice their opinions, there concerns, there passions, their goals. if a subject pops up and i find i have little or no interest in, then i simply move to another post. can't say i have ever found a problem with any post, or it's author, and certainly view each post as an opportunity to learn something of value to me.
pat

Thank you! It appears you are level headed and open to a wide range of thoughts & ideas, adult discussion and intelligent input/dialogue.

My primary issue is that whenever there appears to be an opportunity to take a topic in a new and political (or more political) direction, you seem to jump on it in an ever so predictable way. If you can't find your political commentary in this thread without me highlighting in bold red letters then I'll help you:

Agree 100%.Our current economic situation is unsustainable, PERIOD and I fear for our future and the future of my children and grandchildren. Our rudder is confused, our hull foundering and the "captain & crew" in charge are heading us straight onto the rocks.

See THAT was boating oriented!

And yes I do disagree with your politics - pretty much 180 degrees. I'm also willing to bet that if you go back and look at previous threads, you won't find many (any?) where I'm the first one posting a political view. Rather what you will typically find is that a lot of political commentary happens - typically one sided - and then after tiring of only hearing a right leaning point of view, I try to politely explain an alternate view of the world and the situation. I also agree that the spending that is currently taking place in government is unsustainable. I just wouldn't place the blame on the current administration. When the ship is grounded hard, it often costs a lot of money to fix the mess and the mess created over the previous 8 years - is an Exxon Valdez size mess. As for deficit spending, the 8 year Bush administration was stellar at that. That said, I would still prefer it if we generally avoid political discussions here as they usually only lead to arguments and bad feelings.

^^Got it. "It's Bush's fault!" Of course...will it still be his fault two yrs from now?Four?...Eight?...Ten?...Twenty?....Amazing. My "predicatable way" rubs you the wrong way, doesn't it? How inclusive. How progressive. So I was correct; any view in opposition to yours needs to be silenced. Again, very progressive of you and yours.

Me, I like water and beer...maybe an occasional rum & coke. I leave the Kool-Aid to others.

And this:
Our rudder is confused, our hull foundering and the "captain & crew" in charge are heading us straight onto the rocks.
was VERY boating oriented.

I'm not here to argue politics; I KNOW I'm correct. And eventuall history will, sadly, prove me right too. You stand on your side of the line and I"ll stand on mine. Let's call it a mutual agreement to disagree.
