You are SO not going to believe this...

We have been dealing with service issues the past couple days; that's another story for another time, but let me just say that the factory folks are working with us to resolve those issues.

Here's the "rest of the story"... this morning we came back to our boat in the factory yard to get our laundry; since we weren't going anywhere while they were working on our boat, we decided to accomplish something. Joan and I both got out of the truck to get the stuff off the boat. After taking about 10 steps towards the boat, we heard the doors on the truck lock... with my keys in the ignition... and Joan's purse in the truck... and the motor running! The culprit: Molly the catboat cat had stepped on the door lock while looking out at us! :disgust A definite "Oh, ***" moment.

I was ready to call a locksmith (and terribly embarrassed) when C-Dory workers started gathering around the truck. "Cute cat," and "Do you think she did it on purpose?" got tossed around. I wasn't thinking she was so cute at this moment, and YES, I am sure she did it on purpose... she loves the boat and was ticked that we put her in the truck again! Several of us tried to get her to come stand on the lock again... not a snowball's chance in hell of that. She just sat in there with a slightly devilish grin.

One of the gentlemen from C-Dory saved the day by getting a wire into the door and opening an electric window. We are very grateful for their help in this oh-so-weird situation. :thup

Molly (and her staff) are back at home on the boat tonight... in the water in Bellingham, and ready to go exploring (after a good night's sleep for us all).

Best wishes,
Jim & Joan... and Molly the catboat cat

Well, as they say, dogs have masters - cats have staff!

Exploring out of Bellingham is great, you basically have one choice to make right off the bat - which way around Lummi Island? If you go south, past Eliza, and turn right over the top of Sinclair and Cypress, you are staring into the heart of the San Juans, with Orcas and Blakely up first, then Shaw, Lopez, and San Juan and the dozens or hundreds of other neat little islands. And there is a lot to recommend this, lots to see.

BUT if you go to the west to round the bottom of Portage Island, and then north out Hale Passage, you are only a short distance from three really neat islands - Matia, Sucia and Patos. Sucia Marine State Park is, deservedly, the most visited marine state park in the system. But we really suggest Matia and Patos, specifically, a little cove on Matia sometimes called Matia Cove - it is on the southeast corner, not the one with the dock. Anchor up, dinghy ashore, and explore! Patos has a really neat cove called Active Cove, with a light house on the point. From there, it is only a short hop over to Stuart Island - and two great harbors, Prevost and Reid, on opposite sides but connected by a short trail. On Stuart Island, a hike to Turn Point Lighthouse is really neat.

From Stuart you might as well go over and clear customs at Bedwell Harbour on South Pender Island (you do have your passports, of course, and Molly has her health certificate, right?), it is only a short distance away. At Bedwell, not much unless you want to treat yourself to the luxury of Poet's Cove - Starcraft Tom can tell you all about this one! From there, I would back track a little bit to spend the night at Cabbage Island, actually the harbor (harbour now, you're in Canada, eh?) between Cabbage and Tumbo off the southeast end of Saturna. Then around the outside up to Active Pass to get back inside the Gulf Islands - you CAN go through Boat Passage but we don't recommend it. Then up to Montague Harbour, spend a night, in the evening walk up to the road and catch the hippy bus to the Hummingbird Pub (you DO like Fats Domino, don't you?). Next stop should be Wallace Island, Conover Cove. A run up to Pirate's Cove is definitely worthwhile. How much time do you have? There are lots of other stops you could add in, such as Ganges on Saltspring (too crowded for us, but hey, it is a neat tourist town), some stops on Vancouver Island like Chemainus or Ladysmith, Telegraph Harbour on Thetis Island, and so forth - just thumb through your Waggoner!

Love the picture of the cat. Sooo innocent! No, I think car makers are not animal people. They put the electric locks on the flat surface of the door handles. When our dogs and or cats get up to look out the window to see where the heck we are going, where do they put their little paws? On the flat surface of the door handle! So, I do believe your tale. If you travel with a :dog or :cat , especially one that holds a grudge, beware.
Glad you are on the water enjoying your new boat. Robbi

Mom and dad, look at my picture again. Yeah, just like Robbi said, such an innocent face. All sweetness.

I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to. Really.
Molly :cat

What a neat looking cat, even if it has a different side to it. We tried making a boat cat out of our Abby, no luck. :crook She likes her home and wants nothing to do with boats. Well, that the way it goes. :crook
Good luck on your adventure.

I have met Molly :cat and she is a very nice and laid back cat. Nothing seems to bother her and I have a hard time believing she would lock her servants :female :male out, unless she had a justified reason. Jim and Joan must have done something to deserve being locked out :dog and are not telling the whole story. I think we should get Molly’s side of the story.

Molly, have a wonderful time up north.

Hi Dave,
Molly here. I have locked Jim and Joan out of the boat. It wasn't easy turning the button on the door with no opposeable thumbs. Yes, they ticked me off - riding in the truck just isn't cool. Good to be back on my boat.
It was nice meeting you and Teri... she gives good belly rubs.
Oops, they found the key - got to run.
Purrrrrrfectly,
Molly the C-Brat Cat (that has a nice right to it, don't you think?)

A dog looks at life and sees people that feed him, care for him. give him a warm place to sleep, and the dog believes they must be gods.

A cat looks at life and sees people that feed him , care for him, give him a warm place to sleep, and the cat figures HE must be a god.
