Hi All,
Dragonfly and "Crew" is on the water again finally ! Seems like forever since we got to go play. We took off to Southport NC then up down to Myrtle Beach for a day or two..then back to Southport. Hey beggers can't be choosy about how long they are out ! LOL Oh and I was so "brave" today I drove the boat from the wildlife ramp to the marina ALONE.. gotta start some place right ? It seemed like a very LONG 15 minutes ! LOL I didn't add any holes and didn't take on any water ! LOL Well better go...wish you could all see the Sunset down here tonight ! Take care ..tell ya about the whole trip when we get home... Tracy "Dragonfly"

Good for you Tracy! Glad to hear that you had some time on the water!
I'm on my 5th day of washing, waxing, sanding and oiling the teak floorboards, fabricating and welding. Got the new trim motor on too. Heck...at this rate...we might be ready for a slip in Oriental next month...If my tired old body survives.

Hi Tracy,

Here's to time on the water! :cocktail I saw in your photo album, a shot in the Oriental marina. It seems that everything you read about sailing on the East Coast takes people to Oriental... is it as cool as everyone writes about? I listened to a podcast about the people who have the town dock webcam and publish the Shipping News - sounds like a great place to visit.

Enjoy your time out there.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Dragonfly, If i had known you were in Southport , N.C. and headed down to Myrtle Beach, S.C..We could have met you all for lunch, supper or somthing.. You passed our house and boat on the waterway between Ocean Isle Beach bridge and the Sunset Beach bridge. Our boat is on a lift under a boat house with a burgundy metal roof.....How far south are you going and will you be comming back up the waterway?? If you need anything ,just give us a call.If you need any transportation, such as a truck and boat trailer or a ride ? Just give us a call 910-5750725 at home or cell 843-9076617......Keep your life jacket on! Beth and William Tucker.

HI! Yes we are coming back down the waterway Tuesday morning . If I had been able to connect to the internet last night we could have made plans to stop and have lunch some place ! We saw your boat and matching house .That really got our attention .LOL We didn't see a name so we didn't know who you were. I was going to ask around when we got back home. We are staying at the Barefoot Resort /Marina. Very nice place. Just a little pricey. We will keep this place in mind when we come back this way. If your around tomorrow morning we'll give you a toot ! We had a time making that pontoon bridge on the hour ! LOL Then the other low bridge on this side we had to get it opened up too. The guy said it was 9 feet but we need at least 11 to squeeze under it. He didn't seem to happy to have to open up LOL. My cell # 9197088434 In case your going to be around tomorrow and know of a good place for breakfast or lunch... Take care...Tracy "Dragonfly"

Some day I'll think before I click ! I forget to answer someone add other information... then I have to add more.. LOL . Yes we love Oriental. We liked it when we were just boat shopping and like it even more now ! The folks there are "really" nice not fake nice.. if that makes sense ? Laid back and easy going place. You all should come check it out for yourselves ! We'll have lots of photos in our album soon of Oriental and Whittakers point. I always forget to take photos even when I remember the camera...lol. Ok I'm off to see Barefoot Landing's Fireworks. They have them durning the week on the water ! We'll have more about this trip later.. take care all ! Have a great night ! "Dragonfly "

Hey, Dragonfly, Dragonfly, Drag on fly.

We just received you post. If we had gotten it earlier we would have called you and driven down to Barefoot Resort and taken you out for dinner or a dinner show such as Dixie Stampede. Unfortunately I must leave early in the a.m. and go out of town with my job.

We have been down to Barefoot Resort but most often we dock across the waterway at Barefoot Landing and eat at one of the restaurants, because we don't spend the night in the marina.

Memorial Day weekend we took our C-Dory (without a name) to mile marker zero in Norfolk, VA, passing through Oriental along the way. We really wanted to make it to your C-Brat gathering in September but we both still work in order to buy gas for our boats.

If we'd known you were going to be in Barefoot Landing we would have brought you a vehicle to use to roam around the Myrtle Beach area while you're here. Sorry we missed this opportunity.

Keep your life jacket on!

Dragonfly,
By the way, if you needed an eleven foot clearance under the swing bridge at N. Myrtle Beach you must have been standing on top of your boat, holding your hands straight up in the air. We go under without any problem, but then again, I weigh so much that I mash the boat down into the water.

Beth and William

Beth & William, Thanks so much for the offer, maybe next time we get this way we can meet and have a nice chat ! We didn't hook up to the wifi until this evening. Poor Larry followed me around while I shopped at both Barefoot landing and then we took a taxi to Broadway at the beach today. LOL He is fairly sick of shopping I think..he was a real good sport about it. If you all can come just for a day we'd love to meet you at Oriental. Maybe take you out to supper ! :D Take care, Be safe traveling this week ! Tracy & Larry "Dragonfly"

It was the Little river swing bridge that we had to get them to open. We have an airconditioner on top of our boat ..I'm guessing that is the difference? We need at least 9 feet of clearance.. Take care, Tracy

Jim B. ~ If I may jump in here I will say that Oriental is just as wonderful as everyone says it is. It is a very small village where everyone knows everyone and nobody is in a hurry.

There is no Walmart, no mall, no McBurger joints. I have taken friends to Oriental and their comment is always, "If you don't boat or fish there's nothing to do here". That's why I like it!

Of course if the ladies get bored it is only 25 miles to New Bern. There are enough stores, shopping centers & restaurants in New Bern to keep anyone happy (and broke).

On Friday evening most of the population of Oriental shows up at the Tiki Deck to talk about the events of the week.

Every morning the streets are crowded with people bicycling or walking, and whether riding or afoot they all smile & wave while trying not to spill their coffee.

I asked a fellow some years ago how the work on his boat was going. His answer was that he would be making better progress if he didn't have to stop & wave at everyone who went by.

There is a plethora of information about Oriental on the Internet if you are really interested.

Of all the holidays Croakerfast & Spirit of Christmas are the two best times to be in Oriental, although I have never found a bad time to be there.

I am hoping to relocate to Oriental within the next 12 months. A little behind schedule. Perhaps the slow pace of Oriental is rubbing off on me?

Al I agree ! :P Oriental is a terrific place. I don't fish as much as I'd like to with my husband but I don't think I've ever gotten bored there. I like to just people watch from the slip or the bar ! It's fun just to see what everyone else is doing when your doing nothing ! :D
