We're back

I hope. Sorry for the 2-ish days of down time.

Our 20+ year old server finally bit the dust. I knew this day would come, and the good news is - I'd worked on options quite a while back. However, life gets in the way and that long overdue project just kept getting shoved to the back burner.

Fortunately my "work in progress" that hadn't been looked at in almost three years seems to have filled the gap. Whatever we see now is what we've got. There's been inadequate testing, y'all are doing that now - and should anything be discovered that needs addressing there's a high likelihood it can't be fixed.

This new server was brought online with backups from 12/2 or 12/3, so we have lost a couple days worth of data. The good news is, we're finally off of physical hardware - we're now on a virtual server that is far more immune to the realities of time. If you don't understand any of that. pat yourself on the back for not being a nerd.

Follow up here if you notice anything odd. That is, beyond our C-Brat participants - that's "normal" odd. :P

A day that was headed in the wrong direction on a number of fronts just got a whole lot better! In fact, I've nearly forgotten most of my other troubles. One thing, though: I am mostly of the non-nerd persuasion, and I'm having a hard time reserving an IP address for ethernet and wifi connections to the new modem-router Xfinity said I needed. Got any spare time? (Just kidding. I may not be a nerd but I am stubborn as hell, and I will figure this out!)

Thanks for everything you do around here. This site is my favorite digital thing in the world.

Thanks, Will... with no C-Brats to start my day off, I was forced to entertain myself by talking to my wife. She seems nice.

(rimshot)

We appreciate what you do to keep this place up and running.

Oh my god!!! I was in desperate need of my C-Brats fix!!! Thank you for this website- my favorite site and an important part of my day! This is truly an inadequate expression of my appreciation.

I've had several reports of system mails not going out. Could be notifications of watched topics, registration/password confirmation emails, etc.

I'm aware, trying to figure it out.

A huge thanks to the two administrators, and a reminder to donate to the "kitty".

I had a little trouble signing in, but probably on my end.

Great that no major amount of data was lost!!!

Again the best boating forum on the internet!

I think everyone is quite happy this is back up. Just goes to show how much many of us depend upon this site. Thanks Will and Mike for all you do with this endeavor! Colby P.s. Just made my donation to the tip jar. It's worth a few bucks to keep this site up and running! (Or to help Tyboo with his bait costs. lol)

how do i contribute a few dollars to help fund this site

Go to the Home page, look at the upper left corner and you'll see where you can click to donate. Fast and easy if you use PayPal.

Just below "ads" on the Left upper, is "Tip Jar". You can donate without PayPal. Use a credit card.

There are many real costs to keep a site like this running smoothly!

So, so, so happy that C-Brats is back. I made my donation to the 'Tip Jar' and it was easy! I just clicked on 'Donation' (on the home page) and made payment with my Credit Card.
Thank you so much Will and Mike for all that you do to keep this site running smoothly and to have it operational. You guys do so much to help people get connected and to set-up photo albums etc. Much appreciated!

thanks - i sent a little your way to help fund this great site . now someone just needs to find me a CD16 cruiser here in BC :)
