Welcome to the C-Brats!

Janet & I think the open back 22 was called the "sport" model too. I saw them at the factory when we bought our boat in 04 and not since.

Sport Cruiser was the short lived 22 without the bulkhead. It was a Cruiser sized cabin. The shorter Angler cabin that this gentleman is talking about makes more sense to me.

Dan – welcome to the site, glad to have you aboard.

There are many members here with C-Dorys that are ex sailors and some that still have sail boats as their second boat. You will fit right in.

Welcome aboard Dan. I'm an ex sailor and yes, the first time or two out we felt closed in. It'll quickly pass and when you finish a day on the water without feeling sunbaked you won't regret your choice.

Welcome aboard, Dan.

I'm a 33 year veteran of sailing and racing wars myself.

The C-Dory is a sailor's kind of boat, simple and genuine.

Thought for you: Buy a used 22' Cruiser and then, after a year or so, decide whether you want to cut out part or most of the rear bulkhead to open her up. It's cheaper up front, and you can have either kind of boat for less money!

Joe.

Hello all,

I can probably say 'ditto' to the recent post by Canaveraldan relative to this great site and its influence on our desire for C- boat. We currently operate a 198rf Hurricane but have had the trawler bug for some time. The trailerable feature has grabbed us as the answer, for the near term anyway. And the Dory/Ranger family seems to be the only ticket for that.

We are pretty laid-back folks who love the water. I drive, she fishes.
She's a CPA, I'm a Musician. Sounds weird but it works for us!!..lol We have done a lot of camping out of the Hurricane, love anchoring out, but are looking for a few more creature comforts.

So, enough intro, here's the current plan.

Since we haven't actually been on one of these boats, and have no idea which boat is going to be right for us, CD 22, CD 25, TC 255, Ranger 25, we have booked a three day charter at Wefings in June for our first trial on the CD25 and will be looking at the Ranger 25 and anything else available while there.

Anyone who cares to give us a heads up on the area will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully we can develop an itenerary that shows us the capabilities of the boat, catch a few fish, have a great vacation, and make a big step toward getting a boat!!!

Please be patient with me, you seem to be a great bunch of folks and I will try to "Just be nice", just forgive any mistakes in forum etiquette. I really am an 'alright guy'.

Randy and Cathy,

Let me be the first to welcome you to the fold -- and you WILL be among us soon enough! Once you see one of these boats in person and get a chance to crawl around them, it's just a matter of which one, no doubt. Thanks also for the great intro so we know a little bit about you.

We're kind of like that Verizon commercial, this large crowd behind you ready to help in any way we can...! Enjoy your tour, tell us how it went and your thoughts.

Welcome aboard Randy and Cathy,
You are in the fortunate situation to be able to test out one of these boats for some extended time. I think it is great that Wefings has a rental CD-25; it would have made our decision making process much easier had that option existed when we bought (or had we known about it). It is a very capable and versatile boat - hope you have a great time and it will be interesting to hear about your experience with the boat.

Another welcome to Dan,
We also are sailors, but have come to really appreciate powercruising on the C-Dory. I never felt too enclosed at the helm station on our 25, but I was concerned at first that I couldn't "feel" the wind. Definitely not a problem, since all the visual cues are there (and you can always open the windows :wink ). The first time you travel in chilly wet weather, you will first feel guilty that you are dry and warm and then will come to revel in the comfort of that cabin! 8) Days that would have kept you from sailing will be C-Dory cruising days. Wondering if you will make that pass on your next tack will be replaced by the enjoyment of going the heading you want. These boats point amazingly high, btw.

Oh yeah, there are plenty of days where we take our time and poke along at 6 knots enjoying the scenery. You can still listen to Radio Margaritaville in the cockpit. Your foulies will last a lot longer since you only need them when you are outside the boat (like on the dinghy ride to shore).

I thought I'd feel a real twang in my stomach when we pass sailboats, but that is a rarity. We sold our trimaran when we bought this boat, but kept our trailerable catboat... you know, just in case. I've sailed the catboat maybe a dozen times since we bought the C-Dory, and we'll likely sell it when we get back home in a few months. Darn shame to let such a neat boat just sit. But when we choose which boat to go out and play on (even for just a couple hours in the afternoon), the C-Dory is an easy choice.

Just a couple years ago, a powerboat of any kind wasn't even a consideration... sailors through and through. Then came some ideas about coastal cruising... running rivers... canals... the shallow waters of the Keys... and a neighbor suggested we look at a C-Dory. And then a year of angst while I worried about "the ride" and whether my sailing buddies would ever speak to me again. All the former sailors here can empathize. Perhaps a good question to ask is: who has sold a C-Dory to go back to sailing?

Good luck with the decision making.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Hi, we just joined the C-Brats by purchasing a 22 Cruiser and are waiting for it to be set up and delivered; hopefully next week will be our day. We live in New Bern, NC (Fairfield Harbour) and was wondering if other C-Brats live close by.
Although I have had boats most of my life a C-Dory appears unique and am hoping to exchange ideas and experiences with other C-Dory owners.

Thanks and looking forward to comunicating with fellow owners.

Welcome to the C-Brats and congratulations on your new C-Dory. R&R is a good name 'cause you'll find it relaxing and a good way to unwind. As Wefings, a dealer in Florida says: "Boating is still cheaper than therapists." As to finding other C-Dorys around you, look at the top line on the page where you see "The Brat Map". Click on that and you'll see there are a lot of boats back there your way. Zoom in and you'll find them.

This site and the Brats are great. We lurked for a year before we bought C-Cakes and the Brats were a significant factor in our decision to buy our boat. Almost any question you can think of will get an answer here...and some will even be right! Be sure to take advantage of any C-Brat gathering you can get to, we'd even welcome you out here in the far West, oh...and give up any idea of other hobbies. They just seem to fade away once you get your boat on the water :) .

Congratulations and welcome.

Welcome to C Brats! Go to "Forums" and choose one which seems most appropiate to your question. Just go ahead and ask away. There is a very good chance that most of us have had the same question.

Hello everyone! We are the happy new owners of the 22' Cruiser "Secret of Life" (formerly the Tonie O of Santa Cruz). We have been looking for a couple years for the right C-Dory boat and we send out a huge THANK YOU to the Ogimachis for letting us buy her. She will continue to be well-loved. Keith, Donna, Eric and Luc Newlin.

Welcome to the club -- we have had some nice times with your Secret of Life up in Alaska -- she's a great boat and glad she has appreciative new owners. Have a great time with her.

Hi!, my name is Don. I just purchased Jim T's 19' Angler today and wanted to say hello to you all. I saw the boat for the first time on this site. We live in Loudon, TN (a transplanted NY'er) near Tellico Lake. This site has been a valuable resource for me and I thank you all for being so open and friendly.

Regards,

Regards,

Welcome Don - hey, I'm actually welcoming someone to this site. I've only been hanging out here for less than a year, but have found it to be a great resource. We have had our 19 since March and have been heading out every available weekend. Set up a photo album and update us on your adventures. Congrats on the "new" boat. I see we now only have one 19 left on the for sale board, (thats still possibly for sale.)

Tom

DKZ,
Welcome to the C-Brats and C-Dory ownership. You'll love your boat. And don't let Tom kid you, he and Shannon go out EVERY weekend! :wink

Hey DKZ- Welcome to the neighborhood. You will love that 19 footer, trust me. And, whatever questions you have, just ask. Somebody on here will be able to help. Also, as one who is "mechanically challenged", let me say that you should never hesitate to ask a question that you think you should already know the answer to. The Brats are always happy to help. Again, a sincere welcome aboard.
