Six months after we started looking for our first boat (with a lot of time spent reading here, going to a CBGT, etc.) I was getting frustrated that the really well priced boats were all in Alaska, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Virginia, Florida, Texas, etc. Distant boats turned out to be very expensive to transport, and out of my comfort zone risk wise. Then, a week and a half ago, a 2006 22' Cruiser appeared on Seattle Craigslist, for a very good price. We jumped on it, not even having a tow vehicle at the time. It was moored to a floating home for 2 years (fresh water), and the previous owner used it in eastern Washington. It was kind of a big process, even with it being a local deal, but it's done now, and we're just waiting for the title.
She used to be named "Molly B" (it can still be read in the right lighting). We're in the process of coming up with a name. Other things in the works are: getting a truck, kicker, cover, learning the old systems ('06 vintage radar and GPS), learning to back up a trailer better, etc.
By the way, if you look in my gallery, you'll see an interesting picture of how the boat was loaded onto the trailer after we bought it. The previous owner had both a 16 and 22 foot C-Dorys, and the winch was set up for the smaller one. We towed it away thinking it didn't look right, and it wasn't until we got home we noticed that the coupler was pulling up on the ball. Good thing we didn't pop it open! Since it's on bunks, we couldn't move the winch and pull it forward without taking it back to a ramp, and it was a little crazy the day before Seafair. So we took it to Edmonds marina and had them lift it off the trailer with straps so we could adjust the trailer. It was only $24 to do it, and a lot less stressful than taking it back to a crowded ramp. That's probably the least I'll ever spend on something boat related!
So that's it for now. Looking forward to cruising around the Sound soon!
