Hello C-Brats!

My husband and I are looking to buy a used 23 Venture or Cape Cruiser with a molded / insulated interior. If any of you C-Brats know any 23 owners who are thinking of selling, please send them our way. We can be contacted through the email and PM buttons on our profile page.

Sam (20dauntless) very kindly gave us a ride in Retriever a week ago and we loved his CD22. We thought we'd be looking for a CD22, but after reading all the 23 Venture posts we could find in the forums, we decided that a 23 might be an even better boat (for us) than a 22.

We are located in Seattle, but are open to purchasing a boat located anywhere in the USA. We prefer a single engine, but are willing to consider twins too.

Many thanks for helping us find "our" boat!!
Diane

Hi Diane,

Welcome here.

(here too) The first power boat I checked, back a few years ago, when we were looking was a Cape Cruiser 23 with a single E-Tec 115. Lots of neat features on that boat. Over time we were able to find a C-Dory 22 Cruiser which fit out financial situation much better. the CC was pretty nice, good ride and finish.

Good luck on your search. Keep looking here and let us know how things are going.

The cape cruiser models were built in 06-07 there are about 50or so cc-23 "s this model does not have the vinyl ceiling and v-berth area vinyl . If that is what you are looking for look at the venture series from c-dory . My cc-23 is hull #3 it has the same interior as the 06-12 cd-22 gel coat finish. it does not have the vinyl interior or the teak drawers .We live in SW florida so the vinyl model would not be good with all the mold . Check out jennykatz pictures then look at newer venture series .
If you find one of these boats you will not be disappointed storage inside about the same as cd22 but more storage in cockpit also 60 gallon gas and about 4.2-4.4 mpg statute with f115 yamaha , about the same as when I had the cd -22 with 90 suzuki.top speed for cc-23 is about 33 mph usually run at 22mph @4500 rpm

Contact Les Lampman on Whidbey Island. I believe he has Charlie and Melle Lee's boat on his lot for sale. I cannot find Charlie's user name on this forum, but if you send me a pm, I will give you their email address.

The boat at EQ looks like a winner--lots of custom work. You can always put vinyl foam/carpet on the ceilings to get the insulation you desire. (good idea in the PNW).

I agree that if you want the vinyl interior added, there are many capable shops that can do that for you. I got a quote on doing that to a tomcat a number of years ago when I was thinking about buying new. At the time, the factory indicated that they'd tack on around $2k for the interior vinyl. So if you find a boat that has most of what you need, I wouldn't ignore it because it doesn't have the vinyl interior. That can be added.

Many thanks to everyone who has replied in the past 24 hours! We appreciate it.

EQ is not open on Mondays, but we will be calling them to get some more details about My Lee on Tuesday. We are not ruling out any CC23s without the insulation as we understand that this can be installed after the fact.

We'll keep all you helpful C-Brats posted on our progress...
Thanks much!
Diane

Besides the insulation there are other differences in between a Cape Cruiser. The box steps in the cockpit are a little bigger I think making getting on board a little easier. In the berth area there are three compartments with hatches for storage that I'm not sure are in Caape Cruiser. The standard feature set for the Ventures included a refridgerator, interior grab rails window coverings, raw water wash down, an hot water heater, teak racks in the galey area, racks, a convertable dinette seat to a forward facing seat, shore power with battery charger. The factory did a nice job with the insulation which is on the cealing and the sides of the berth and all of the cabin. More than just keeping the condensation from dripping on you the interiors are very quiet. We have a hull rated for 150 hp which is what we use for power. Some of the earier hulls were not rated for 150 hp. Loaded light 100/115 hp is ok, if your loaded for cruising the 150hp comes in handy, fuel mileage suffers some as we get about 3 miles per gallon average. The Cape Cruiser and the Venture are the same hull, just some suble differences in the interior we are glad we have.

Sportscraft in Portland had a 23 Venture on the lot last time we were there this summer.
Nice boat, but we got a good deal on a 22 so went with that.

Triton is now offering an option to build a new CD-23 with a full compliment of amenities as described above or in base form like the CD-22 or CC-23 the choice is yours, you can add only the options that you want. They will even reconfigure the interior layout to meet your wishes. Also, Les Lampman offers an exquisitely made Marinaut 215 if that works for you. Ryan at Sportcraft in Portland (1-877-662-9965) is an easy guy to talk with and a straight shooter on the CD-23.

Will-C, many thanks for detailing the differences between the CC23 and the CD23V... we really appreciate it! These are the types of details that can be very frustrating to compile when searching through old forum posts.

Jerry97230 and My IRA, thanks for the tip on the Sportcraft boat. We spoke with them and they were very helpful. The boat they have is a new 2012 model. We would love to have a new one, but at this point in our search we aren't willing to pay the entry fee. Although... the Marinaut sure sings a lovely siren song...

Our cc-23 hull number 3 . We have on our boat
1 window coverings option
2 anchor windlass option
3 refrigerator option
4 shore power with 10 amp charger standard
5 windshield wipers standard
6 large overhead shelf standard
7 duel batteries standard
8 lenco trim tabs standard
9 Our boat came witha 120 hp Coast Guard sticker The later cc-23 hulls all came with 150 hp
stickers The boats are the same

The boat performs pretty well with a f-115 on it 33mph WOT and cruise all day at 22mph @4400rpm..If I was buying new I would opt for twin 50-60hp or 150hp .

The major difference as Will-c has stated is the bigger step getting into cockpit with storage the nicer interior teak drawers and the hand rails overhead .In the V-berth area are 3 storage bins that we have foam instead . Also the biggest thing you will see is the padded vinyl which gives the boat a more finished look .With that said I would pick a Venture over a cc-23 hands down if it was same price. So look around the hull is the important part of the equation Most of the Venture add on can be added on .Good Luck in your Quest .

Our boat also has the barber seat that looks forward or goes into a dinette .

Alot has to do with how you how you intend to use the boat. A lightly loaded day tripper has a different set of ideas and needs. We have on a number of occassions lived on the boat for thirty days at a time. We stay in campgrounds on land in the boat while in route. Preparing for these excursions allowing for a dinghy, dinghy motor, clothes did I mention my wife has been accused of over doing the clothes thing? Food is another item that requires storage and usually a cooler. We travel full of fuel starting out and top off the tanks on any refills. Usually a full water tank also as we travel in salt water almost all the time so washing off the boat and having water for the sun shower hosing down the cockpit is handy. We travel with a small bulldog and she has her own list of things needed for her cushy existence. So all of these items add weight and take up space. Extra storage and a dripless existence from the git go are very important if you are doing any extended cruising and worth the extra dollaros to someone who does that sort of thing IMHO.
