My Wallas has started to kinda backfire when I shut it down. Is there something I need to do - other than stop using it, and not rafting on the stbd side....

Are you turning it all the way up when you shut it off? That helps keep it clean. Keep us posted.

We leave ours on "high" for 5 minutes before shut down. Also what fuel are you using? Is there a wind from the stb side of the boat?
 
I dont want to highjack this thread, but I have a question for Jim and Bob. You say to turn the stove up to High when shutting down? Cant find my manual at the moment but I thought it said to turn it all the way down during shut down. I' ve been doing it that way since we bought the boat. Am I wrong? Thanks for any help.

Chuck, you are correct about the manual. It does recommend that you turn it to low (and I do that slowly) before shutting down. I don't know if this is true for all models of Wallas, but it is for mine.
 
Have you made sure the fuel line is at the bottom of the tank? If mine sucks even the slightest bit of air it starts getting smelly and coats the side of the boat with soot.
 
WE had a similar problem with our single burner wallas on our cape cruiser(venture series) we emptied the 1 gallon jug cleaned it out then put in clean heet and also put in 4 2in vents now it works fine starts up in high always then for shut down just put it down to low works great use it at least once a month to keep it clean
 
No soot yet on the outside. I've been running diesel but changed over to Clean Heat the other day. It has been doing this for a month or so, but it didn't exactly "poof" yesterday after the fuel change over, it was more of a "POOF !" - actually bounced a plastic cup sitting on the cabinet.

We usually have the stove on high since we only use it to make coffee/boil water. I believe that my manual said to turn it up on high to start, but when shutting down it didn't matter - I'll check.

After the last, I'm getting some balls to fit the exhaust. "Prepare for broadside" !!
 
We were told some time ago, that turning to high, would help to prevent sooting up the pot burner. It seemed to make sense to us, and we have never had any problems with a Wallas, but I guess there is always a first time!
 
Two say "high"

Three say "low"

I also turn it down low before shutoff. That makes it 4:2. The lows win!

I suspect it makes no difference :?
 
It might depend in the year of manufacture (or the software version). The manual that came with mine in 2008 makes no reference to a special shutdown procedure. I simply switch it off. So far no problrms but it can't last :)
 
Not sure what the Wallas manual says......but the C Dory owners manual that came with my boat has a page on opperating the Wallas stove......and it definately says to turn to maximum to start and turn to minimum to shut down.
