USCG inspection sticker and Boater Card

I looked at those, but most have no padding up halfway in the back and then a big chunk. They work great with a kayak seat. Once you have a high back seat like in the CD, the paddle sport jacket back padding gets uncomfortable by tipping you forward in the seat. I went to REI and tried their selection. Nothing quite right.

The common PFD design is to have no flotation for the area under the arms so that it is adjustable. If the vest were "custom made," I could have 2" of foam at belt level under the arms and not extending to the back. It would only impede me from standing to attention, which I only do when the admiral is piped aboard.

In reference to weapons aboard, I know that many law enforcement agencies, and at least the US and Canadian Customs people have access to the database of CCW holders. When we go to Canada, at customs several times we have been told that they knew I had a Florida CCW, and where were my guns?

We have been boarded by CG when we had weapons aboard. They asked where the weapon was, and then secured it. One of the issues with traveling in the US in a trailerable boat, is the various state laws. Although one has rights of passage, the weapon must be secured, to the standards of that state's law enforcement. For the most part states consider a boat as a vehicle--so their laws apply. When we are in those states, we have the weapons secured so that there is no ammunition near the gun, and the gun is locked in a case or secure compartment, with at least 3 steps to get the ammunition, which is also secured--and some states don't want to see ammo in a magazine. On the other hand, our CCW gives reciprocity to 38 states.

When we went into Canada last summer, the Customs Agent asked if we had any handguns... "No, sir."

Then, in true Canadian form, he apologized, "Sorry to ask, and I'm not singling you out because you are from Texas. We have to ask everyone."

There is a guy from CG Aux who lives on my street. When I ask, he puts on his uniform and comes down the street to inspect my boat while it's on the trailer in front of my house.

...the first question here is "Do you have any weapons onboard?" When I show them my work ID, the attitude relaxes.

AST, USCG, ADF&G, Alaska Parks, NOAA, USFS & USFWS all have fish cops / water patrol personell (must be a training area) been boarded by all.
My answer is always Yes. 9mm on hip, 6" 629 in cabin next to the rifle. Never an issue!
