The following is a “True Story” - John (Firefly)

Back in May we got an email from Firefly, John & Kitty, wanting to plan some kind of adventure. I mentioned that I have never been to Lake Powell and was really interested in exploring the area. Great minds are always in need of a “Plan” so we made one.

I was really watching the weather as our trip approached and the forecast called for Hot and more Hot. I don’t think the daytime temps ever fell below 102 degrees, but we are adaptable. The shear beauty of the Lake and Canyons were so off the top of the charts that the heat never became much of a hindrance. Being on the water and in that environment, plus a dip or two, kept the brain from baking.

John, a fantastic guide with 30 yrs experience coming to Lake Powell, really gave us a memorable tour and him and Kitty are wonderful company. We went to Gunsight Bay, Rock Creek bay, Oak Canyon, Secret Canyon, Twilight Canyon, Reflection Canyon and more. Being there on Labor Day Weekend also created more competition for camp sights, but John was able to find us come great places. We had one bad experience, a house boat intent on damaging the eardrums of everyone within 10 miles with bad music, but Firefly found us a place to move to that turned out to be the coolest site in Oak Canyon. Kool as in Kool, but also cool in that we had a bit of shade :)

I realize I have created another “Epic” video, 37 mins in length, but I hope you enjoy all the “C-Dory Porn” I could from our trip.

I sure enjoyed your video. When I was there in late September it wasn’t near the 100 degree plus you were having, but I was still looking for shade & found it in the same site as you at Oak Canyon. I spent a week there at the same site & toward the end of the week shared it with Jody on Voyager, Tony & Diane on C-View & Tony Ferris & a friend of his on Endurance. I agree this year it was the best & coolest site in the Oak Canyon area.

Magnificent video! 4K no less, and stabilized! Professional grade--of course!

Not quite as good as being there...Maybe if I show that to Marie she will let us go back there next year?

Thank you; I know how much time and effort goes into these productions!

Nice video. We stayed on the same beach at Oak Canyon at the end of Sept. When my screen refreshed Jay had posted.

Almost as good as being there! Thanks for sharing, and the work you put into making the video. :thup :thup Lake Powell is a very special place.

Thank you very much for the great video.
We most likely won't make it down there but your good work made us feel like we were there. Impressive sights.

That was a great video! Thank you for taking the time to put it together and posting it.

We're hoping to get up there one of these days soon. Maybe this coming spring.

WOW, that is great. Excellent photography, and editing. Looks like great boating area. Right now, the idea of warm water sounds really great. And blue skys. Thanks for sharing that and for all the effort. What a great place. Have to go sometime.

What a great video. I've been going to Lake Powell for decades and love the place. Your video brought back lots of memories. Spent the night there in September and met Jay and Tony & Diane. Only got to see Jody briefly as we headed north and he was heading south. Oak Canyon is a great place to see many of the most spectacular canyons. I have to admit, I try not to be there in July and August though. Too darn hot!

Thank you, what a fabulous production! You've convinced me I have to add Powell to places to go. I've always shined it on (why go to the desert to go boating???). OK! I now see what all the fuss is about! What a great video!

Floyd,
Another A+ with a gold star!

Yes, one must always have a Plan...Key West Dec-Jan, West Coast of FL cruise Feb, Hontoon Mar and (the Biggie)...PNW, San Juan Islands, Broughtons Jul-Aug.

Happy Planning!
John

Super video. Well done.
Missed this year but will make our third trip next Sept. Can't bring "Easy Duzit" but will rent a houseboat and bring the dinghy. Cruisers from Key West and our son and his wife from LA will join us. Hope to see some fellow brats then.

Good job Floyd!

I have never been to Lake Powell, but I feel like I just returned from the place. I had no idea the Lake is so big and pretty.

Looked hot though. Don't know if I will ever be able to get Kathy to go on another hot C-Dory adventure after our Nashville Skyline trip down the Cumberland and up the Tennessee Rivers. All we had was a borrowed fan from John & Eileen on Cat O' Mine.

At least Powell did not look humid!

Powell is a dry heat. By the end of Sept. it begins to cook off, and the nights are cooler due to the 3700 foot elevation. As long as you have shade and a breeze, it is pleasant. Running on the lake, provides that breeze. The water is a very pleasant temperature. The best time (in our opinion) is the fall, when the temps are falling, the lake is still warm, and to cool off, you jump in the water.

II feel Powell should be on every C Brat's bucket list--especially if they live in the West. It is one of our favorite places. Although we have an air conditioner, we never used it at Powell.
