All I can say about your starting example photo is wow, what a beautiful combination of place and sunrise. Good idea.
This is one where only the place made the sunset. Icy Strait close to the junction of Chatham Strait, Alaska Northern Inland Passage.

Here's one I took while I was in Bali a few years ago. The photos I have may not "compete" with some of the stellar ones above. However for me, it's not the quality of the photo but the quality of the memory it elicits. I love this idea for a thread Dan, looking through old photos made me feel warm and fuzzy inside....
Capturing the moment - AND the memory - is just what an image should do. This is one of my favorites, not because it is the best image I've ever made, but because it reminds me of a great moment...
