Well, this thread is new to me and as a photographer, I care about it. I've taken two large groups to Costa Rica and was concerned then about people infringing on my "art" (photography) and the potential to capitalize on my hard work. So what did I do? I hoarded my photos or shared them with only a few. I also have some wonderful poems I've never shared and some of those have since been lost or destroyed. So I ask you, who gains by this? The kids in the pictures got older. And by the time I realized that I really wasn't motivated to promote or sell the photographs, the timeliness of many of them had passed. I gave them away since then, but some of their value was lost by waiting too long. Life is too short. Share away! That is what U-Tube & the internet is all about.
I wish I'd shared the erupting Volcano Arenal with the local television news agency when I returned home in 2003. They probably would have had it on t.v., but no, I hung onto it and unfortunately, few have seen it. Going to the U-Tube site I've seen no videos of erupting volcanoes even close to the three eruptions that I have... two filmed at night with night vision, so I just need to get motivated and download it there.
Dave is right. If I take a photo of your boat, or dog, or family, it is mine to do with what I want. I for one, refuse to dress my cute daughter in a Burkah just because of a few freaks out there. I didn't fight in combat to suppress rights but rather in support of freedom. Don't sell my photos. But use them and give me credit. C.W.
