Sea trial new Tomcat, Mt Vernon WA

The SMIS gauges are user settable, so it is possible to program in three identical pages.

The gauges can show battery voltage, but it is the voltage present where the gauge is powered from. There is no connection for each battery, so no way that I'm aware of to read each bank. The center gauge could be programmed to show Engine Voltage, which would then be able to show each engine as a seperate page. If the gauges are running off the house bank then the battery voltage could be the house battery, and then each engine's voltage would be what is being out put to the starting batteries.

But- the gauges can be powered by either engine or by the house battery using the optional multi input power node. If the gauges power up when a key switch is turned on, even with the gauge switch on the dash "off", then this power node is used, and battery voltage will be simply whatever the system is seeing.

I can't add anything of substance to the discussion, but I am impressed with Matt Gurnsey. Even though you are buying the boat from Master Marine, the dealer Matt is competing with most, he has responded to your questions promptly and free of charge. Well done, Matt!

Yes, thanks Matt. Too bad the Tomcats are so scarce.

The SMIS guages are basically the same as Lowrance Guages. As Matt says, you can program any of the readings on each guage--put in more guages if you want (they are cheap--and run off the same bus).

I guess with the syncronizers you don't need the tachs, but I am so used to the Analogue tachs, I would be lost without them. Same for the trim guages. I see some real advantages with the digital system, but also some disadvantages. That is you cannot watch the tachs and trim guages at the same time. In your case the fuel consumption is from the engine computer, and should be accurate.

I have one Blue Seas digital (LED) guage and a 6 way rotary switch to read battery voltage. (off on each end, and 4 banks of batteries) Your SMIS Guages are only for the engine bank. With the set up which I have you can moniter the voltage of each bank, when at anchor or in a marina. (My banks--st and pt engine start, house, and inverter/refigration. The latter two can be combined to give one big house bank (about 400 amp hours)--or kept separate.

We all have different uses for our boats, and you will decide what is going to be best for you, but monitering voltage when running various appliances, is important at anchor.

Actually, you can view tachs and trim at teh same time- set a page on one gauge fof dual analog, and then set one side for each engine. On the other gauge, set a page for the trim gauge- it will show both engines at the same time.

The beauty of these gauges is you can show analog or digital information, and have up to four gauges displayed on one of the larger gauges. Preset pages as you like, and with the push of a buttom you can scroll through the data quickly.

On the fuel usuage, I like to set the gauge to read combined fuel used and combined economy.

Tomcats are indeed rare right now. Expect that situation to get worse before it gets better.
