We are thinking of spending the Christmas and New Year Holidays in San Carlos, Mexico along of course with our CD22. We have a number of questions that maybe some members can answer. Has anyone of the C-Brats site boated San Carlos this time of year? How was your experience? Any predictions on weather (I have not yet invested in radar)? We will most likely do day excursions (staying in a hotel at the marina) with maybe an overnight if we find a nice cove (any suggestions on good places to see?). Weather permitting we might go across the Sea of Cortez to the Baja. We will of course get insurance for travel and on the water. What about the availability of gas at the docks going north of San Carlos on the mainland side? We have a dingy (without an outboard) and could get to shore with two 5-gallon gas cans and find a filling station to get gas if there is none at the docks. We will use bottled water for drinking but what condition is the water at the docks for filling the CD22 water tank. Can that water be used to wash vegetables, etc? Do we really need to Clorox it? Read on “THE LOG” that adding a bottle of white wine to the water tank several hours after the use of Clorox greatly improves the taste (think I'd just as soon drink the wine). Do the harbormasters speak English (Patty is fluent in Spanish but shy about using the VHF)? What other questions should we be asking? Ohoooo, by the way if anyone would like to join us, any and all are welcome! :xseek :D

I have spent about 10 Christmas and New Years in San Carlos but did miss this year and last, hope to start again next year. The Marina there equals any in this country as far as convenience and service. Ramp and crane for launching. Slips available. Secure dry storage about a half mile away with no overhead wires between the water and dry storage. Most people use bottled water for drinking, 7 pesos or .70 cents for 5 gallons, you can get the water truck to stop by the marina and fill your tank with bottled water. I have always brushed my teeth and washed vegies with tap water no problem. WX is usually clear and in the 70s that time of year. No wind usually in the mornings, building to 10 to 15 from the north in the pm. Lots of places to anchor overnight. No fuel that I know of north on the mainland until you get to Kino Bay. Spanglish works fine for communicating. Great place to be but getting more popular every year.

There is a cruising guide, Cruising Guide to San Carlos on the Sea of Cortez, by Gerry Cunningham. Over 50 anchorages described. The ® is 1997 on the book I have, not sure if there is an updated version. Compared to the Maptech guides, it is a bit weak, but the only guide I have seen for the San Carlos area. I picked mine up at the West Marine in Phoenix years ago. Might be worth a call to them if you can't find it elsewhere. Hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

There will be no more of this talk of sunny, warm winter days and boating in tropical waters on this forum. I will be going to work in the morning in the cold and the wind and the rain. And while I do have a week off at Christmastime this year, I will still be here in the cold and the wind and the rain.

Hey, I'll have you know we have a cold front that is supposed to come through here tomorrow morning: supposed to be only 78º first thing in the morning and then drop throughout the day. May get all the way down to 70º by late afternoon. If this keeps up, I might have to put on shoes.

Umm... did that boat of yours come with a trailer? :hot Maybe all those birds that fly south are on to something. 8)

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Mike- For your convenience, I have brought forth your latest weather forecast: COLD WIND AND RAIN ALL AROUND WARRINGTON.

I'm still wearing t-shirts, shorts, and sandals in Redding, where the high was a balmy 83 degrees FairandHigh today.

By the way, usually warm-hearted Santa Claus says he won't be coming to Warrington this Christmas because he doesn't want to freeze his booty off!

Merry Christmas from warm, sunny, California!

Joe.

...Warrington...

Sure glad I don't live there, way over in the UK! Here in Warrenton, it isn't too bad. Afterall, it's a wet cold.

And I got some news about that Santa dude. The only one I know lives in Warrenton.

Well, do you suppose he's got any sturgeon in his sack this year?

If you got rain, it aint cold.

Although an open boat with rain and just enough snow mixed in to remind you that it is a cool rain . . . .

Hmmmm, Jon and Patty and Joel --
Mexico for the Holidays -- got us curious and interested. Maybe we'd be with family for the Holiday, but might think of heading south after Seattle Boat Show -- how long do you think you'll be there?

We have reservations at Marina Terra Hotel starting on Dec. 23 for 10 days leaving on Jan. 2. We might extend our time but that will happen at the last moment. We will keep an eye out for stray C-Dory’s and monitor Chan. 16 and 68. Hope all can come down (Joel & Bill& El, ......). I thank everyone for their advice as we have never cruised outside of the US (not that we have cruised that much in the US). Feel free to email us at jbcrossrvg@mac.com or post it here. Have a good ThanksGiving and hope to see you during the Chrismas Holidays. :xlol
