Retirement..

Sea Angel

New member
The time has come to pass the torch. Sea Angel's capt. is retiring from
the TV Broadcast business on 1 April after 25+yrs. Why then? I made
CPO in the USN on 1 April and retired from the USN on 31 Oct
(Halloween) after 23+ yrs; what more appropriate time to change course?

The gaining of one's freedom is scary, but full of wonder. Though many
have done this before me; I have yet to experience it. I will be able to
spend time with my wife and family, do short cruises, help in the
USCGAUX, help at church and mentor some kids, etc., applying all my
hobbies and interest to grow by.

There are wonders in the sunsets ahead. I pray that I will be wise enough
to grow and share these wonders.

Congratulations on this next chapter, Art. Retirement is what you make it, and it sounds like you have plenty to keep you busy.

Our original plan was to retire about 7 years ago... and I just couldn't do it. Didn't know what I'd do with myself; but beyond that, I kinda believed that a man is what he does. Last year, we knew we were ready. If I had known that it was this much fun, I woulda done this a long time ago! :wink :thup

We used to live by our appointment book - I could tell you what I'd be doing, hour by hour, over a month in advance. Now, everyday is a surprise... "serendipity" is what El and Bill call it, and it's a whole new ballgame for us. Yes, we generally plan where and when we want to be someplace, but our plans are usually carved in Jello now. Haven't worn a watch in months, and the hours (and days) fly by.

Good luck, and keep us posted on how this retirement stuff works out for you.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Congratulations on your retirement! I retired 15 years ago, and never looked back. Wonder when I ever had time to work. Keeping busy is the secret of retirement.

Congrats on your retirement!

I retired almost two years ago and am so busy now that I don't know where I found the time to work.

Looking forward to seeing you at Lankford Bay this year.

Hey Art, congratulations! You know some of my tale here, I retired from the USN in 1991 as an O-6 (Capt), have worked for Defense Contractors and Computer Companies since. Can't quit at this point since they insist on paying me so much money, I work at home, my own hours, full time but have no time clock, etc, etc. Full time, full salary. I'm "on call" 24x7" running a JV company on the internet, full expenses etc. Can't quit until I die or they don't need me. Lots of time for the boat, etc.

Sorry to complain.... I cry all the way to the bank.... :sad :sad :sad

Now that you're "free" come up and see us in the Northern Neck, the pier is always open...

Charlie

A hearty congrats on your retirement! I retired in August of last year and haven't looked back. Had I known how great it is, I would have retired five or ten years earlier. I am busier than ever and doing all the things I love but never had the time to do. Enjoy.

Congratulations, Art!
Thank you for your service to our country. You deserve to do whatever you want. Now enjoy yourself and the freedom you've earned for all.

Art... Congratulations. You will love it. I sure have.

Now, grab that ol money pockets retired 06 Charlie.... and yall drag yer butts/boats down and join us on the Cumberland for a few days/while. You'll see some of the stuff Bill and El have enjoyed with us..

Now Charlie: We have phone lines down here... you set your own hours... come on down... and see if you are running your business...or if it is running you. I'd love to have ya down.... and wake up ol Terry over there in NY and drag him down too.

Aint life in the Brat-lane great!!! :smiled :thup

Art --
Congrats on completing such a successful and essential career -- now time to be selfish about YOUR time -- you've worked for it -- and now enjoy every minute of it! Keep us posted how you find this "new" life.

WOW,
Such a warm response! As I wrap up another digital VTR for work, I am standing down for the day and found these encouraging and uplifting messages.

This new journey has already started with coworkers and station persons setting parties and 'dinners'. All this warms the heart and is oh so challenging - to learn how to acept such appreciation. I feel that I am on the wrong side of the 'stick' somehow.

My USCGAUX Commander already has projects to set me up with. I don't think I will set any commitments till after I get the 'lay of the land' and a picture of the 'money' tree.

Boy, the 'BIG LOOP', sure looks good. Now, if I can only talk my wife into that. I guess small trips around our little Lynnhaven Bay area and the Lower Ches. Bay will have to do till things settle.

Thanks again for the warm thoughts.
