you are exaggerating the difficulty with wide load. less than 10 feet is basically not a problem--year around permit. Over 12 foot wide (The Chilkat is 12' beam) requires the pilot car. A 1 ton truck will handle the weight--Ok on the height.
When you get over 12-14 feet, height over 13'6" is where one gets into the expensive trailering. lots of 10 foot beam boats transported routinely in FL and most Southern states with the simple 'wide load' permit.
is it fun?--not as fun as under 8'(some roads will not allow 8'6")--but that is rarely policed...
