Today we closed on the purchase of a CD-22 Cruiser which we will rename North Star and have put our pin in The Brat Map at last. Thanks to Joel & Susan (SEA3PO), we had our lazarette hatches before we had identified our boat! Also, many thanks to some of the members with whom I have corresponded about C-Dorys and who gave me valuable insights and advice -- Bob (Thataway), Nick (Valkyrie), Dun (CTYankee) and the inimitable Byrdman. Also, thanks to all of you for your posts and photos on the site which have given us cruising inspiration, a ton of information over time, and enough ideas for modifications and changes to be made that I will be busy for several years. This site is an amazing site and is a very important part of our decision to purchase a C-Dory. We are coming from a Nordic Tug 37 and the site has been a fabulous aid in making the transition which has us very excited. We think that there is a whole lot to be said for having the smallest boat that will do what you need a boat to do and we think that we have found that boat for our needs.

The boat we purchased needs some TLC and has significant damp core in the cockpit that we need to address. The core dampness is due to the usual screws without epoxy or bedding and a rear bench seat with two legs. Holes were cut in the floorboards (no sealing) and into the cockpit sole. Core was removed for fittings into which the legs fit. These fittings were installed and were neither sealed nor filled with epoxy. Frankly, I think they rest directly on the hull skin and I suspect that if someone jumped from a high dock onto the rear seat, the legs might be driven through the hull! The boat also does not have a galley, fresh water system or a stove (probably a Wallas since we will boat year round) which I will be installing as well as adding radar and a high arch. Oh, and I have a couple of lazarette hatches to install!

Finally, to facilitate our travels and attendance at future Brat Cruises and Gatherings, and other cruising plans, we have ordered a tandem axle LoadRite disk brake trailer which should arrive in a few weeks.

So, we have a pin in the map and are very excited. We are looking forward to meeting some of you on the water. Thanks again to all.

Congrats on your new purchase. We also just purchased a CD22 and are coming from a 32' Sundowner Tug. Loved the "big" trawler -- but we are looking forward to "loving" the small managable "go where we want" CD22.

Congrats to you both. When we are cruising in our C-Dory, we often get questions from folks in larger boats... and most of those discussions center around the trailerability of our boats and the "can you really cruise comfortably in that size?" questions. Most of those folks "get it." It's the ones who have never experienced time on the water that can't believe we can be comfortable and content with our boats.

We'll look forward to hearing about how you both use your boats.

Best wishes for great times onboard,
Jim B.

Welcome to the C-Dory world and congrats on the new boats. We are on the other side of the map (Left Coast) and enjoy that there are C-Brats all across the country. We still work to support our boating so long trips are in our future as well, but would like to make a trip to your coast some time in the future. We just completed our first (long) trailer trip over Labor Day weekend. Trailered up to Vancouver BC, launched there and went by boat up to Princes Louisa Inlet BC. Loved it. Our next trailer trip is going to be to Chelan lake in central Washington.

Enjoy the boats and the projects and the travel. And, Thanks for your participation here too. It broadens all of our horizons.

Congratulations on finding the "right boat" I am sure that you will make all of the needed improvements to make the boat "right".

Congrats...... You'll love it.... I used propane on my boat...for the stove...which I like.... and made lots more storage by adding cabinets...so don't be hesitant to ask questions ..... lots of creative ideas on these boats.... (much of the charm...I love to tinker)....

Welcome aboard....

Hey Connecticut Jim,
Congratulations on your find. We look forward to seeing you two at c-brat gatherings. I just didn't get that winning lotto I needed to get that great looking 37' tug. It sounds like with North Star you have an empty canvas to fill up. Have fun !! Check out Davids photos of the mods he did on Anna Leigh 22' and 25. He is really talented and has a lot of great ideas. I can't do the fancy link but here it is the old fashion way.

Hey Hey Jim!

WONDERFUL NEWS! I have truly enjoyed our many emails and messages. Great to see you have a C-Dory. I feel sure you will have her fixed up and cruising before you know it. Let me know once your trailer gets in if you plan any road trips to the Nashville area or any of our rivers down here.
