New C-Dory 29'

Here is a picture of her in the water awaiting a haul out after the test run. there are 4 more pictures in the Anna Leigh Album HERE in the un-named folder. I should have put the 16 next to it to get a better prospective of the size.

If my memory serves me about the Olympic 34 , there was only one built . It graced the cover of Northwest Yachting once The last I saw anything about it was a for sale ad somewhere, and it is in Alaska.
Also I believe it is a Tolly hull under it.
 
As I suspected this boat looks great in the water compared to on a trailer. Every bit a C-Dory to me. I want one. Does anyone have any idea yet of the likely price of this boat?

Also the inboard is going to allow for a really great swim grid to be accessed of the transom door.

Looks like a great little family boat, but with a salty heart.

When I was at the Bellingham CBGT, Brent told me it would be in the $200,000 price range. Add electronics and other options most buyers will want and it will probably cost out around $220,000.

$220K buys a lot of boat. I'd have other ideas:

But I will certainly salute as it motors by . . . A good looking boat! Hinckley builds a million plus day boat, maybe that's where the market is headed.
 
Thanks for the link to the Lifetimer, Tom. Not familiar with that line at all, but there are a lot of aluminum boats competing in that market. Do they exhibit at the SBS?

Haven't seen any swimstep in any drawings, yet. A full-width swimstep is a GREAT IMPROVEMENT over the small one that can be mounted on a boat with outboards!

Here it is from the NJ Dealer.

The boat I have coming will price out at $185,900. Plus frt & commissioning It has a Yanmar 220hp diesel, generator, air, bow thruster, and electric windlass. It is supposed to ship this Tuesday.
 
Add in $13,000 sales tax, probably $3000+ for transport, $2000+ for "commissioning"--maybe more with bottom paint, plus another $10,000 for electroncis at least.....and add in any other custom items.

Just that adds up to: $213,900. Getting into some significant bucks in this economy! Boat sales are way down, Boat dealer and builder profits are way down.
 
As well as being high priced, does any one else think that this is the ugliest C-Dory ? It is anything but cute. Did the current C-Dory mangement graduate from the Edsel School of Boat building or the American Standard Bathtub School of Yacht Design? I know I'll get flak for this comment but darn, the 29 is one clunky, fat and ugly looking boat. Its lines and form are anything but sweet. Add in the perpetual QC and leaky hatch issues on our boats and I vote for the Nordic 32 or just about anythjing else in this price range. But.. I still love my CD25!!
 
Warran, Yes they show at the boat show as well as a few other big canadian alum cruisers. Boats afloat in september is coming up soon. You may have to stop by and get me for that one.

You're not alone. I also think it's not quite right. I wouldn't call it ugly but it's kind of like a big kid where everything is not the right proportions - e.g. just homely. I also agree with Tom's earlier comment that if they had made a 27' pilot house like Aviq, I'd love that!

To me, the 29 looks like it just has too much freeboard or something...not quite sure how to describe it. Someone said chunky...that's about as good a word as any I guess.

I agree...200 grand? Not in my lifetime...even if I did have the means. I'd rather have a used Nordic Tug or Sea Sport if I was going to get a boat that size.
 
Here goes my 2 cents worth .Well $200,000.00 worth... Each has an opinion and mine is that this entire boat is a misfit with the stand up head located in front of the port seat.The top of the head sticks up and blocks the side window and the front windshield...A long with the dash on the right side.....As for the 22 foot center console i wonder just how many has been sold and put in the water ?? Keep your life jacket on! tucker
 
I too have reservations about the success of the new '29. Long ago in business college we were taught that there were only two paths to truly successful manufacturing: Build the best or build the cheapest. The CD-29 is neither, nor is it a major design evolution.

Seeing the 29 out of the water, however, is like judging a beauty contest from the waist down. That big hull distracts the eye and makes it look ungainly and awkward, and hull #1 means the designers get to see precisely where the "oops" are. Like Microsoft's Windows, it'll take a few iterations before we can really say it sucks. Which, like Windows, may NOT mean it isn't wildly successful.... :sad

My "third party" opinion, for what it's worth.

SeaSport, Osprey, Nordic Tug, Rosborough, to name a few competetors that SEEM to offer more for the same or even less.

I believe that considering the alleged QC issues currently with C-Dory; first time buyers of that size and type of boat might also be lured to the Bayliner Discovery 289..especially since you could get 2 for the price of the 29.
