my oil looks like a milkshake :(

“...iz no problem...”. (With thick Russian accent)

I’m always cynical of someone, who is trying to sell me something, telling me the item is fine...yet they cleared the proof that it is. Perhaps it’s my lack of faith in mankind due to my job...

Bad reviews--don't do business. Cleared the alarms--high temp? Why, what temp, and duration. Why was the motor traded in with only the low hours?

If you can find a motor which was traded in, because it was not enough HP for the boat--and it is documented that the owner went from 150 to 200+--that would probably be the best scenario...

That is their claim.

I asked the guy to send me the alarm history but says that the he already cleared it and that all it had was a couple of high temp alerts. This dealer has terrible reviews on yelp and google. What do you all think?

I believe you know what we all think...This is a "trust your gut" moment.

. That the boat was underpowered 13 years later? Maybe--maybe not. Could have been a new owner.

If they can put you in touch with the previous owner of the motor--both when it was sold, and more recent owner who changed it out--then OK.

In our area used 150 Hondas in good shape, are not very common.

I had a similar overheat . Tore engine down and found extensive corrosion throughout the water jackets. Even though the motor was pissing exhaust water the engine was not receiving even cooling. I never did determine if the water got in through the head gasket seal or a crack in the head or cylinder.
I went from twins to a new single. I would be reluctant to buy a used motor because of the hidden corrosion. A rebuilt power head from a reputable engine rebuilder might be your best option.
Good luck.

Good deal! If I may ask where did you get the engine? Was that mounted et all? My son may need a new 150 for his 25 Cruise ship....in Dana Point...

Inflatable boat specialists in oxnard. they wanted more but i walked in with 11k in cash inside a jersey mikes sandwich bag and then when they said they couldn't go that low i walked out the door. I got a call a few hours later and they had come down enough that i could deal with them. And yes, that was mounted.

Sounds like you're a "good negotiator". You'll sleep better withe new. I would.

This summer our lower unit had water in it. After speaking with the local Suzuki mechanic, he couldn't guarantee the gears etc wouldn't be toast. Could be $4K to replace. I began looking at new 200's. Found one in Portland area for $15K installed (last 2019 model they had). Best price I could find. I ended up paying the local mechanic to take it apart and diagnose. All was OK. Re-seal for $475. Whew... Our engine has less than 600 hours on it.
