My new boat (part 4!)

Guys,

I wanted to share my recent experiences with you all. I hope no one gets offended or takes this thread in the wrong way. I've moved on to another brand and style of boat BUT I truly value all the friends, insights and laughs that I've gained from C Brats over the past few years. And I'd like to continue to be an active member. This collective group is really amazing and I haven't found anything even remotely similar online (and I'm active on many other boating sites as some of you know!). Thanks again......

I bought a 2000 Camano 31 Troll in the beginning of August. It has a 200hp Volvo diesel motor. For the past few weeks the marina and I have been working on it incessantly. I've had the fuel polished, fuel filters changed twice, coolant flush, new overflow tank, BRAND NEW raw water pump (ugghhh), 3 brand new batteries, all fluids/filters changed, new shaft bilge pump, full detailing, compounding, new invertor, AC service, new Samsung smart TV, new digital TV antenna on flybridge....and on and on and on......

Fast forward to last week. I brought the boat via water from Westport, Ma to Buzzards Bay , Ma (about 30 nm). She ran like a top. I then stayed on my parents mooring until yesterday. Then yesterday I brought her via water to Boston (about 50 nm). She again performed like a champ and didn't have a hiccup! What a great shakedown cruise. The fuel system seems great and all systems are a go. I have a nice slip here and actually don't have a neighbor! I'll be here until late October and then haul her out. Over the winter I'm doing LOTS OF UPGRADES.....But for now I'm just enjoying this beautiful boat. Oh, and please take notice of my BURGEE in the video below! Make sure to change the video resolution to 720 or higher for better quality.

PS: The new owner of my 25 is really enjoying the boat. He's a fisherman from ME with a small family. What a great boat for him. I'm so glad that the person who bought my CD really appreciates it and loves the brand. (He's actually a Brat but I don't think he posts much, lol)

No offense here. Somebody told me once a C-Brat, always a C-Brat! NICE boat. But can you trailer it? lol (I have to ask that, just to ground myself from drooling too much! ) Colby

Jason, Congrats you Brat. That Camaino Troll is one of the few boats on the water that I have been envious of. The Ocean Sport 33 is another.

You sound like you are getting this one off to a good start. Enjoy. And I 'm pretty sure it's ok to post pix of non C-Dory boat here toom so go ahead and show it off. (I will have to sit back from my laptop to look though, so the drool doesn't get on the keyboard.)

Please stick around, I have enjoyed your presence here.

Congrats on the new boat, Jason. Yes, you are still welcome here... after all, you have owned more C-Dorys than about 97% of the participants here. 8)

We considered the Camano at the same time that we were deciding on the CD-25... the trailering aspect of the C-Dory was key for us. I have no doubt that boat will give you years (well, maybe months considering the way you trade up  ) of great experiences.

Lovely boat - enjoy!

Jim

Great to see you finally got the boat in the water and running smoothly.

But I don't believe it is really your boat--no 6' radar antenna! :)

Smooth seas!

Congrats Jason! Thanks for sharing the video tour, it looks to be very well maintained. In my book that would be a liveaboard! Let me guess, first project is tinted windows and LED lights? :wink

-Mike

Thanks everyone.

Dr. Bob: I can't fit a radar array! I may have to have a mast or radar arch built! ☺

Mike: I think I'm over the colored LED phase! But the tinted windows you were spot on! Lol. Im gonna tint the 2 rear windows. Then for the sides I'm having the front canvas extended to wraparound to the sides.

Wow, congratulations! Yours is a very nice example of the pre-helmsman Camano Troll. To me it's like the C-Dory of trawlers: simple layout and systems (eg: the fold-away helm seat) economical power, and very versatile. I actually looked at it's sister ship the Gnome, the version with no flybridge. When I move up in size this will be on the short list, together with the Albin 28. I would be interested in your real-world fuel consumption data; I've heard good things about that hull form. Enjoy. Mike

Jason, I finally got to see the video and that was fun. The Camano Trawler is beautiful. And with a flybridge. Not something you have been dealing with in the C-Dory group. And, BTW, if you are running that radar when you are upstairs, you might want to consider lead undies

Nice choice.

Beautiful boat. However, I'm a locked-in life-time trailerable boat guy. I just have to roam to new waters. So, I've never been happy with a slipped non trailerable boat. I had a Gulf 32 Motor sailer in Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles. Loved the boat, but hated the fact I was stuck there. To each his own, and your boat looks great, well fitted and a nice home on the water.

Now, if I could just afford TWO boats, one in a slip and one on a trailer I'd be in hog heaven.

Sure, I get that. To each his own. I didnt like trailering. I agree about the 2 boat thing as well! Having 2 totally different boats would be cool!

Beautiful boat Jason, congrats. I did the same as you. Got my Camano Troll six weeks ago. Love the luxury and she is so easy to drive.

Once a C-Brat always a C-Brat.

Martin.

We bought our Camano Troll 5+ years ago and have enjoyed everything about it. We just returned from our annual trip to Cathlamet, WA, where we keep it for 2 months every summer/fall using that base to explore the lower Columbia.

I agree with the not enjoying trailering thing. If the boat is in the water already, I'm a lot more likely to use it.

Cooked brakes, transmissions, and salty trailers all that add up to money and headaches. Not to mention white knuckling the steering wheel.

Congrats on the new Camano troll. That thing looks amazing.

Trailerable is one of the best things about the CD-22.

I can take it to many different places pretty quickly.

I can park it in front of my house if I want to work on it (for as long as I like).

I can store it in places safe from harm, and easily move it somewhere else if necessary (say an approaching hurricane).

If it needs service that I can't do, I can just drop it off (no waiting for someone to come out to the boat).

The only downside (IMO) is what to do with the tow rig once we go somewhere to take the boat out for a few days.

I don't consider towing my boat a "white knuckle" experience. The only thing is you have to plan ahead when entering/maneuvering in tight places to have a way in and a way out (like gas stations). On the road, I don't find it much different from everyday driving.
