Joel's boat Kea WRECKED

I am posting some pictures of my tug boat Kea wrecked this morning...I got a call before dawn that she was on the beach...we had terrible winds last night...and the pictures were taken just after dawn....since then the wind and waves have gotten much worse so all I could do was to brace my tractor against her side to keep her from being driven further ashore.... unfortunatly she is sitting on a large pile of rocks .... at least she is heavy with water and driven hard aground so I don't think much more can happen... hopefully tonight the wind/waves will lighten some and we can pump some and get her nose into the wind....I don't know if she is holed or not...but the hull really looks bad.... I am sure the diesel is under water...as is most everything else....
 
Guess I should explain for those that don't know me.... I own a C-Dory...but during the summer I work as a commercial diver and this is my working tug....guess I am out of business for a while....I finished my season just yesterday and thought about pulling the tug, but the wind yesterday was brisk so I thought maybe today....bad idea

I am just heart sick...
The lake is Lake Almanor in Northern California...

What a sad sight to see such a beautiful and functional boat sitting helplessly in the waves up against rocks. I know she has been you're pride and joy -- as well as a major income source. She is a very tough boat, hope she isn't damaged too bad. Keep us posted, thanks for the pics.
 
:( Sorry to hear about your boat. When I was looking in your album, I saw the "passive" seat control pix ~ how do you like it & who makes it?
 
Joel, Those pictures are hard to look at. I can't imagine what you are going through. I will keep my fingers crossed for the best possible outcome. Robbi
 
Very sad situation. I can imagine what you must be going through.
I get a sick feeling in my gut and a sad/lost feeling looking at the pictures.
For you it must be a thousand times worse.
I pray that it is not as bad as it looks and eventually you are made whole again.
 
Just got off the phone with Joel, He still has 3' wind driven waves washing over the gunnels at this time. He took more pictures and will post them when he has time.
Hoping the wind lays off before dark so he can pump her out and float her off the rocks. Wishing I was closer to assist in recovery.
 
How sad...and a reminder that one does not have to be in the ocean or even a particularly large lake to have lethal weather. We hope for the best for you and Kea.
 
I just posted some pictures that I took at 3pm....I think it is getting worse not better.....at least it is not pounding on the rocks....I have the tractor up against the side and that seems to be holding it....plus it is totally full of water....I walked up and down the beach picking up wreckage.....

I am just Blown Away....ever see an old guy CRY !!

Joel, I am so sorry you are having to go through this... it is just painful to see those photos. Yes, enough to make a grown man cry. It looks like a tough boat - hope she comes through this with minimal damage.

So sorry to hear about and see the damage to Kea. What a shame! The winds here at Lake Shasta are about as strong as I've ever seen, too. Hope the damage is less than expected, and she can be salvaged and made whole again. Joe.
 
Our hearts go out to you. We have seen so many wrecked boats on the Gulf the last few years and know how it feels. With some luck the engine can be saved and the hull patched. Sounds like a long winter!

I got er up tonight.... the wind backed off some and the waves gave me a chance to hook up da pump and after an hour or two she was almost empty of water, Then I used the tractor to edge the bow into the wind....and working it slowly I got er off the rocks...I got it up to the dock and pumped the bilge as dry as I could get it....and she seems to be holding.....although I will be going to check every several hours tonight...in the morning I will have er towed to the launch ramp and get er out on the trailer..... then the work begins...
 
That is great news. In your first photo of the boat on the beach, it showed some hull damage. I take it, there was not a hole through the hull?
 
Sorry to hear the first news, and glad to hear the latest. You won't get much sleep tonight, but tomorrow is going to be a better day.
