I think I bought a boat!

Anyone want to look this one over and tell me what you think?
Put down deposit subject to survey and sea trial on a well used but priced right 2004 C-25. It looks like it will need a re-power soon but it is priced accordingly.



Anyone done business with The Boat Shed in Georgetown SC?

That looks like a hell of a deal to me. I've only seen a couple of non cruise ship 25s in this price range and they didn't come with a trailer.

Unless you know something I don't, that motor may have a lot of life left in it. Those F150s have been known to last 1000s of hours with good maintenance. 900 hours is not that high in my opinion.

I wish I wasn't tied up, I'd be happy to look it over for you. I wouldn't be able to get up there until the 16th. I could use an excuse to go to trader joe's though.
 
Congrats! The CD-25 is a great boat! If the compressions check out during the survey, that Yamaha could go for a lot more hours. Assuming you don't find out anything else during the survey, sounds like a good deal. Hope it all works out. :thup
 
At that price I can stand a repower and some other updates, but I hope to be able to get a year or so out of the existing 150. I'm buying sight unseen so wish me luck! Survey is tomorrow so I'll know soon.
 
Looking at the photos, I don't see anything glaring wrong. You do want to carefully sound out the cockpit deck--but even if you had to replace it, the prices is low enough that would be do-able. The holding tank aft has a macerator pump which tends to get wet, and fail. There is a refrigerator, Wallas Stove, and it looks like a complete camper back--I think it is a keeper. Run the engine untilll......Should still be good...Even if you have to re-power, it is low enough!
 
Thanks for looking at the photos, Bob. I hope my surveyor does a good job as I can't be there to observe. This is a bit scary but unless both The Boat Shed and the surveyor are doing a number on me then I should not get hurt too bad at this price when a problem pops up. I did find my own surveyor.
 
Still in progress, Tom. This all happened quickly and I could not be there in person so the sale is contingent upon survey and sea trial, which went down yesterday. I got a quick phone recap and I'm waiting for the detailed survey results.
The surveyor did say that the 2004 F-150 hit 5400 rpm at 34 mph, idled smoothly, and "ran strong". The trailer is pretty sad. He said "local non-highway use only" as the torsion axels are badly rusted, the tires and hubs need replacing, and it has no brakes. I do not intend to trailer this boat in the near future as I don't have the proper vehicle, so that was not a purchase factor for me.
One bonus was the discovery of a full camperback with screens which was described as "almost brand new condition". I was planning on dry stack storage to start but have run into a snag until I can convince them that this boat will fit their spaces. They have no idea what a C-Dory is.
We will see!
 
Tom and Joyce, it was our ride with you in Apalachicola that gave us the confidence to make a remote purchase, as we already knew that we felt comfortable on the C-25. That was a memorable day, thank you again.

Glad you enjoyed the ride on the C-Otter. The F150 is a great outboard. Many do thousands of hours if cared for. The surveyor is right about the trailer. But you will need a new one someday so that you can visit us on the St. John’s for the gathering. :D

That's a great price Bill! She seems pretty clean too, probably lightly used/lightly fished.

I wouldn't worry about the trailer at all. You should be able to find a decent dual axle trailer. Or maybe see if a trailer dealership will give you a trade in with your old one (may not).

Is 5400 rpm what the WOT is suppposed to be? If yes, then great. If it's a few hundred or so off then keep that in mind. You may have to spend some more after you purchase her to get running right (not a big deal though). It even be a prop issue, which is even easier to fix. Dealerships have been known to use the wrong props and then the unsuspecting customer keeps them on for years.

About dang time...I thought you two would end up in an Assisted Living Facility 20 years from now, still reading about boats rather than actually piloting one.

Prob a little late but I'm just up the road in Charleston if you need anything. We'll actually be about half way to Georgetown all week camping and boating. Congrats on the boat, she looks great!
 
We did go through with the purchase and should receive delivery around the first of the month which is when we will have a place to put it.
Thanks to all for helping me through the jitters of a substantial purchase about which I know way too little. So now my education begins!

In a bit over a year from now this boat will make it's way to Wefing's for Marc to make it like we want it or to sell and move on to-----?
