I need some feedback on our breast cancer tour RV

Catch 22

So as a few of you may know I do stand up comedy. Since August, a few friends and myself have been working with the Susan G. Komen foundation to produce a nation wide benefit tour for women with breast cancer. We are the Pink Ribbon Comedy Tour, and will be doing 75 shows nation wide over three months starting this January. You can visit our website for full details on that.

BUT I NEED YOUR HELP

Right now we are working on the graphics for our RV. We have come up with a design but want to get honest feed back as to whether or not people think it is offensive. Our goal is to attract attention, have fun, but not offend people. I figured there is such a wide variety of folks on here I could get a good sample of opinions. I will appreciate any input, whether you like it or not. If you don't want people to know what you think, but want to offer your opinion, feel free to PM me. Thanks in advance to everyone...

The mock up of the RV is in my photo album called "OTHER COOL STUFF"

I tried putting it in this post but i guess I don't know how???

I think what you guys are going to do is great...and the graphics are great, too. Don't know how anyone could be offended by some folks trying to end this disease. Heck, there's the "save the ta-ta's" slogan...people like that one.

Some folks go out of their way to be offended. These folks would not likely come to your show anyway. The RV design is sure to raise awareness, and that is the whole point. To do so with a sense of humor makes it more memorable. Go for it and much luck with your tour. :thup

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Kevin-

Kudos for your Breast Cancer charity efforts, and the RV design too!

Fooey with any naysayers! They can't see beyond their own stuffy noses, and are just looking for an opportunity to feel offended. Too bad some folks are that limited in life!

Joe. :teeth :thup

Kevin- I have long admired the restoration work you have done on your boat, as well as it's name. I have admired the work you do in the noble profession you have chosen. Now I also admire your good heart.

Ditto. My wife and my MIL would have no issue with the graphics. "Humor is the best medicine" and I'm sure your tour & the RV will have that intended result.

Why is she holding a sign? It’s blatant suppression of free speech like this that keeps me from fully enjoying myself.

No really the van looks great.

Fabulous Graphics! You can park that RV with those graphics in the field in front of our home anytime! I wouldn't mind waking up in their morning and viewing that out my living room window every morning..... :wink

Kudos to you and your compadres for your fine contributions to the war on breast cancer! :thup

I don't see any issues. One night well into chemo, my wife and I were watching a silly comedy and laughing very hard. She stopped and made the comment that she hadn't felt so good in so long. She really felt the laughing made her feel better overall. She has done 2 Kommen 3 Day walks so far, and the inuendos are rather blatant. I don't see that your sign would offend at all.

thanks for everyone's opinions thus far, it's really good to get a wide variety of people's opinions on this... keep em coming, good, bad, or indifferent...

:thup :thup ...that's 2...count them ...2 thumbs up for the graphic layout on the RV. I was not offended and my wife was not offended.

Keep on doing what your doing and hopefully you will be the replacement for the Blue Collar Tour....or better yet..get those guys to join you for such a worth while cause.

I on the other hand will continue to offend.

My $0.02, added to the above, is that having the identification with SGK makes all the difference in the world. Instant credibility.

I thought this might be of interest to a few people. This is a documentary made of a group of breast cancer survivors who paddle a voyageur canoe in the the longest canoe race in the world. http://www.nfb.ca/film/river_of_life/
This year marks the 10th year they will have done this race. They have raised a lot of awareness around the world and this year team of breast cancer survivors from Australia are coming paddle the race as well.

Graphis look great--and for a truely great cause.

The only question I would have, is if some DOT might consider your vehicle "commercial" because of the graphics. You might want to check this out with the local DOT. The reason I mention this, is because another RVer ended up with a problem in Texas (of all places) with some graphics which the DOT deemed commercial, and wanted commercial drivers licenses, stops at entry ports etc...(even though he was also a volunteer). I suspect that the association with the foundation would prevent any problems, but a statement from your state DOT saying that the vehicle was non comercial might prevent problems down the line.

Great graphics. No offense here. As a cancer survivor I am all for this sort of thing.
Recently I saw a picture of a woman with a cancer based T-shirt that said "Freshly Squeezed" across the front. That would look good on your bus also.
Good luck.

I applaud your efforts. However, keep in mind as you drive across the country that you will generate negative reactions to that billboard design. There are plenty of women's activist groups looking for fodder to justify their own "sexualizing women is bad" campaigns. Just be aware of this.

Breast cancer is extremely well-funded already. US taxpayers fund over $1B each year to breast cancer research. Hundreds of millions more is generated by activities such as yours. Today breast cancer is 98% survivable when detected early and it is a type of cancer that is easy to catch and treat early due to the external nature of the breast. There are other more deadly types of cancer such as prostate cancer that are under funded and need the type of attention that breast cancer has garnered over the past 30 years.
