Help! Lost a Set Screw for Camperback Frame Brace!

OK, trying to adjust (loosen) two of the braces on the camperback frame (the part that holds the bimini up in the middle), loosened the set screws on each side, when I was moving the brace on one side, I heard something fall on the other side - when I looked, it was the set screw for the other brace. Looked and looked and looked, I guess I am blind, but it just seems to have completely disappeared. The camperback came from King Marine Canvas, I suppose I could check if I could get one there, but geez, I need it sooner! Any ideas? I have NOTHING in my jar of screws that even comes close to fitting. Fat and quite fine thread...Any ideas? And ain't it par for the course for me!

Pat, Its a standard allen head setscrew that you should be able to find in a good hardware store . Most Bimini parts are pretty standard . should be 10/32 thread and about 3/16 long. AKA "counterbore"

Home Despot or Lowe's, that's where I got mine. Take one with you to match it, they have thingys that you screw them into to check size. I have bought fittings that look alike but one takes metric and one takes SAE. Same diameter, different threads.

Marinepartdepot.com has some for sale too if you can wait to have them delivered, they're pretty quick but order some of both SAE and Metric so you're sure you have what you need. They're cheap!

Thanks, there is a great hardware store in Bellingham called Hardware Sales. Not sure if they are open on Sunday, but knowing what it is called and what the thread size is will really help. I will check tomorrow, and take one with me (and hope I don't lose it along the way!).

Um, you know what's going to happen when he takes the other one out, don'tcha?

Just kidding. I'm a kidder. It's what I do.

Don't know if you have a McLendons Hardware by you but they have a great selection of stainless. Would highly recomend you use stainless steel. Also Tacoma Screw is a good place. They stock all sorts of stuff.

From my experience, Ace Hardware stores beat both Lowes and Home Depot when it comes to fasteners. The local Ace by me has a wider selection of stainless fasteners than West Marine, Lowes and Home Depot combined. Pat - there's an Ace in Northbend that open 8AM-7PM on Sunday.

He won't be the first Barrister that had a loose screw! :disgust

Put it in a baggy that is labeled...

if the store's aren't open, put a clean bag in your vac and run that around the corners .. if it landed inside .. let the Admiral do it .. she may know how to work it .. lol ..

What I found at the local Ace in Birch Bay is not stainless, but the size is 1/4-28 fine thread, and it seems to fit but is a bit too long. Obviously, I also want stainless set screws in there. The marinepartdepot.com website shows something that looks right but doesn't have any information about size, thread, etc.

Pat,
If you're looking for a web site from which to order fasteners, go to Mcmastercarr.com. They have EVERYTHING and generally are cheaper than marine suppliers.

As long as he has the exact size and SAE or Metric and threads/inch, etc, that's fine. Otherwise, he might get screwed(pun intended)

As I said before, I got several bimini fittings from marinepartdepot.com and some had SAE and some had Metric. They are NOT interchangable. Even the hex wrench that fits them is different! Come to think of it, maybe that was the only difference, maybe the threads are the same and only the hex hole was not the same.

Pat, I could drop 2 screws in priority mail to you in the morning if you want.
