Heart Rehab medicine -

Sea Angel

New member
Hi All;
Thanks for all the prayers after my heart attach last June. I still attend 3 days a week in Heart Rehab [M,W & F]. The heat and concerns had limited me to 2 trips to the marina, to date, to put ac power to the boat for charging the batteries.

Yesterday (14Aug) was my first shake-down trip on Sea Angel, underway. I spent 3 hrs cruising the local waters in 83 degree WX w/ NE winds. Like riding a bike, all went well, but the docking was rusty. This was an overdose of happiness that has lifted my spirits. Great day, underway! Great medicine!

Now all I have to do is continue to loose the weight [ Down fm 254# to 226#] and keep exercising. I actually am beginning to enjoy this. How does that happen? Probably because I can feel the difference and my cloths are getting bigger. I still have a way to go to improve myself due to the damage, but it is worth it.

As the Terminator once said," I,m back."

Keep up the good work. Dropping the weight, watching those sat. fats and cholesterol -- keep it up!! Fall is the cool cruising time, with delightful tempts and cool evenings swinging on the hook while tilting back in the deck chair in the cockpit -- nothing can lift the spirits more and give you incentive to keep up the good exercises and eating habits. The Sea Angel is the perfect antidote ... we're with you, buddy.

Hey Art, glad to see you're back. That heart stuff is a real PIA. Be glad folks call us "Over the Hill." Beats being under it....

Welcome back! Sounds like everything is headed the right direction, including the "boat therapy". Here's to continued improvement and lots more boat time for you.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

It sounds like you are really on top of it--good to get back on the boat again! I know what you mean about the diet! Hang in there!

We are glad that you are doing so well.

Thanks again for all your prayers and encouragement.

Today I had 3 POB and spent 4 hrs underway. With NE @10-15 kt winds, 80 degrees, it was picture purrrrrrrfit; even, my landing was smooooth. Sea Angel just backed nicely into the slip and all I had to do was step off and tie up, the wind and current were with me. No help needed, just like I
practiced it in my mind.

I felt so good after todays boat run that I cut the lawn, which till now I wasn't allowed.

Yes, rehab is working and I feel better and stronger than before the attack.

Good for you Art.

A positive attitude and some enjoyment in our activities is the best therapy. May God grant you many more days like today.

Keep it up, Art. More days like today are the therapy needed -- as well as doing all that the rehab folks say -- and watching how much and what you eat. More power to you, and keep up that positive outlook.

Congratulations and keep it up Art. Way to Go. :thup I know what you mean about the water fix. It sure does charge the internal batteries. Both my wife and I are getting a wake up call after her knee surgery, :cry and we are beginning a weight loss, exercise program. :idea Wish you continued sucess. :rainbow

Glad to hear you are getting better and enjoying the boat. Nice to have a goal that is also a joy. What is the weight down to now? By next season you should be able to go aboard for a week.

Oh yes, attitude is a driving force, both positive or negative. When I made a choice to walk by faith, all things became possible. :rainbow

For over 20yrs, on and off, I could not lose much weight, but I have come from 254 to 225. I have a little bump as I'm at 227 today, but that will come off. I did not try to be an over achiever, just consistent.

I went from walking on the treadmill at 2.0mph at 0% grade for 15 minutes to 4.0mph at 5% grade for 25 minutes. The stationary bike went from a level 1.0 for 15 minutes to 3.4 for 20 minutes. Got to work on getting that up so I can ride better distances on my regular 10spd bike at home.

I don't think I will try to go back to my youthful ice hockey days, but the way I am feeling, I think I may be able to play in the over 60 league. Now I think it may have been a mistake to have given all my equipment away. I stoppped playing at age 40 in local adult league[8 teams]. I did go out captaining a championship team the last 2 yrs playing. I played defense.... don't mess with my goalie :x .

Harvey and Deena, I think when you start to feel the weight come off and you replace it with muscle; your legs and, hopefully, knees will get stronger. This has been true for me. I am NOT a medical professional, so I can't advise you how, just support :love and prayers.

As far as goals - I hope to be able to cruise to N.C via the Old Dismal Swamp Canal before it gets closed. A trip to Washington, DC; Richmond, VA, next Lankford, MD Gathering and maybe to scare Captains Choice with a visit at his dock and other Ches. Bay areas. I also hope to install some of my ham radio gear on board for these trips.

Again I thank you all for the support and encouragement. :rose :rose

Not sure exactly what your problem is, I am assuming it is your heart.
5 things you probably should be taking..

1.fish oil omega-3
2.magnesium
3.CO-Q10
4.Ribose.
5.carnitine

take care

James

Hi James;

I had a clot in the front arterial artery, which is one of my 3 stents from 2002. This blockage required paddels and I was w/o pulse for 2 minutes.

I do take OMEGA 3, asprin, ticlid, coreg, lisinopril, niason & zocor. These seem like meals unto themselves, especially since I have to take food with most of them.

Hope this is not too much info. I sure know that getting old is not for "sissies." I have been blessed with a lot of support and a theropy means in the CD.
