Head in a c dory 22

I have a 1999 C Dory 22 cruiser. I recently had the galley unit taken out and had a new compartment put in in its place that has a head put in. It's a beautiful pice of work. I can now cruise and get up in the middle of the night and go to the bathroom if I have to. I find that this makes the boat much more useable. The man that did the work did it exactly for the price that he quoted me. I recommend him highly. I live on Whidbey Island. If anyone wants to have this done I can give you the details.

Bryant, Will the Conch Queen 2 be at the Friday Harbor CBGT this weekend? Sure sounds like a nice and very practical mod, (except for loosing the galley).

Bryant-

At the C-Brat Get Together and Seattle Boat Show about two years ago, we saw a CD-22 Cruiser custom model being constructed at the factory with a head compartment installed in place of the galley.

Someone on this site may have a photo of it. (Anyone?)

I don't know if anyone got up into the boat and took any photos of the details, but I'd be interested in seeing how it compares with yours, just as an engineering solution.

Congratulations on your solving the problem!

At my age, I understand. Eating is optional, but an easily accessed place to pee at night without risk of falling overboard? Priceless.

Also looking forward to a photo or three

But, if you don't have a place to prepare food, isn't there a diminishing returns sorta thing with a hea... nevermind.

For years, I've been reading the "great enclosed head" debate in regards to the 22 vs 25. While this thread is certainly indicative of how versatile/adaptive these boats can be, I really like having a galley AND a head. Just saying.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Bryant-

Which type of head did you install?

1.) A plumbed flush type with a holding tank, which must be pumped out.

2.) A self contained "dry" type, like the AirHead.

3.) Some sort of self contained unit like the Porta Potty, which "flushes", is self contained, and has its own built holding tank.

I'm just interested in how you solved some of the problems involved in the installation, particularly made more difficult with the lack of an "underspace" in a CD-22, which would lie between the cabin floor and the outer hull on most larger boats.

It's the same type of problem faced by Europeans when they wanted to solve the problems when adding indoor plumbing and then flush toilets to older housing units 150 years or so ago.

In order to "plumb" a bathroom, they usually installed the plumbing above the existing floor, then installed a second, raised floor over the original to cover up the pipes. That's why you have to "step up" when going into the bathroom in these older homes and other forms of housing.

I had the large Thetford Marine Porta Pottie installed. This model allows plumbing to a deck pump out. I considered a marine head but that was just to costly and involved. This system gives me the convenience of both without the drawbacks. I'll post some pics soon.

Your guide to posting pics is excellent. But will it work on a Mac running Firefox? If not what mods would be required?
Thanks

From that thread, top of first page:

"So, without further ado, here's the ultimate nerd method. Works on Windows, Linux and Mac.

Pre-Requisites

1. If you have yet to become enlightened, Get Firefox. ......."

I actually have my own method, which involves learning to simply write the code, but either works!

There is an alternate for "old men"--and that is a urinal or good size jug. Sometimes that is even easier than a marine head--especially if the head is hidden away.

I am still having a problem visualizing a cruising boat without a galley.

Warren,

We have the "Little John" from Cabela's onboard Valkyrie and the ladies should know that there is a "Lady Jane" adaptor available, as well. (Don't tell anyone, but it is "Marcia-approved." )

That's what I thought! But when I tried to do it with the urinal image from Cabelas using

Code:
[img]http://images.cabelas.com/is/image/cabelas/s7_515341_imageset_01?$main-Medium$[/img]

I get

s7_515341_imageset_01

I'm missing something, somewhere...

Must be something about that site, image, address, or ???

Maybe because it can be zoomed in on?

I know the images on ebay can't be copied or used as addresses to insert them elsewhere........

Oh well, here's another for good measure:
