Halcyon News

Great pictures El and Bill.

Are you going to join us in September on the Eastern Erie Canal, with maybe following a trip to Canada, Hudson River, and/or the Champlain Canal??

Fred

We are now in Ketchikan after completing a 1,300 mile trip up the British Columbia coast from Camano Island. Great trip. Awaiting better weather (less wind) and then probably heading into Misty Fiords.

We have posted up some more tales and pictures on Halcyon Days of the passage up the northwest coast. Still in Ketchikan, four aboard (son and grandson have joined us). Probably head down to Misty Fiords tomorrow if the wind slackens as predicted (some areas of 10-15 foot waves in the Dixon to the south).

[You may have to refresh this page several times as you peruse, since there are many pictures of Alaska wildlife and the pictures each take eleven seconds to load].

Penny and George (Wanderer) Shawn (Tonie O) are to the north; Casey and Sandy (Naknek) and Chris (Rana Verde) are here in Ketch awaiting weather also. Expecting Pat (Daydream) and David (Anna Leigh) when the weather breaks for them in the Dixon -- sounds rough out there now. Patty flies in tomorrow. Great to have a Brat gang in Southeast this summer.

I hope you are able to get some rest with all the float plane traffic. They start very early in the morning but they stop fairly early in the evening.
Thanks for the updates.
I hope you are planning to stop by this neck of the woods when you come south.
Maybe we could do some fishing?

Bill and El, once again thanks for the text and photos of your latest adventures. It's always compiled so professionally, and the joy you're experiencing is felt by readers. Fabulous!
:love

El & Bill,

Wonderful!!!. All we can do is echo the others in our appreciation for your willingness and ability to share your continuing adventures. Makes us feel like we are there again, sure wish we were.

If you have the time consider checking out the salt water chuck at the head of Port Houghton Inlet and Fords Terror off Endicott Arm.

El and Bill,

When I read your "travels", I get right in to it. While reading IVORY ISLAND story, all I could think of was

"My father was the keeper of the Eddystone Light,
Slept with a mermaid one fine night,
From that union there came three,
A porpoise, a pogy, and the other was me,

Yo ho ho, the wind blows free,
Oh for the life on the rolling sea."

You stories are an inspiration for all of us. When to "break"and go.

I am getting closer. More on that later.

Are you joining us at the Erie Canal in September?

Keep your great stories coming. You both are great teachers.

Fred

We're on Craig, AK -- the rain has stopped (temporarily) and sure enjoying this town. Saw a half dozen whales (Humpbak) yesterday and our first puffins for this trip -- went out to bounce in the open sea swells for a short while to see those little rascals. BBQ fresh king salmon yesterday -- mmmm! Tomorrow, probably to Klawock to visit the totem park and see more sea otters. Great trip with kid and grandkid. El and Bill

Wonderful updates to your site! I wish we had the geology lecture before we spent the three years cruising this area in the Cal 46!

I am wondering about range. I figure that one needs close to 200 miles--maybe further if one wants to visit Ocean City--on the run from Port Hardy/Port McNeil to Bella Bella/Shearwater. Hassler sometimes has fuel, but when we were there it was not reliable.

Again,
Thanks for the time and effort to do these wonderful posts. Hopefully we will make the trip again next year in the Tom Cat...

El and Bill,

These posts about all the boats that went north are great!

From Wanderer's post is seems that you somehow where able to drive your boat up to Alaska and then have your rig up there to trailer back. Now I know Chris is good, but I don't think he could drive two rigs up there. How did you get your rig up there for the return trip? or have I got this wrong?

Can't wait to see more pictures and read more about your trip.

Steve

We visited with Bill and El yesterday at Roger Johnson's place in Stanwood. They were picking up their son's car. They were in a hurry to get on to Colorado where they had comitments on Tues. Guess we will all have to wait and read about the Alaska adventure on the Web. We only got to talk to them for 30 min. or so. I think they forgot about the Bellingham CBGT being this weekend.
