Endless Breeze Fan?

It seems I recall the mention of some folks having used and Endless Breeze 12V fan. I just ran across it in a catalog and, at 12 inches in diameter, it looks good. I'm thinking it might work somehow suspended below the V-berth hatch opening to move some air on hot, still nights. For those that have used one, what do you think of them? Are they quiet? Do the three speeds allow for air movement under a variety of conditions? How do you employ yours?

I'm sure this is not as nice as the Endless Breeze, but we bought an Ozark Trails camping fan (O2 Cool) at Wal-Mart. It was around $15, uses 4 D batteries or you can use a 12v adaptor (not included, but we had one lying around). We use it frequently on warm nights... hang it from a bungee on the center window so it hangs in the opening to the v-berth. 2 speeds. 10 inch fan, it moves plenty of air!

There is various models that look and are packaged alike. Make sure to look close and get what you want. Mine has 3 speeds, AC or DC plug in and holds a charge in addition to having space to hold batteries. I later bought one that looked exactly like the first one but it was not when I got it opened up at home. The fan is on the boat 700 miles away right now so I can't give you anymore info than that. It is quiet and does move air.
 
I've had one for several years and it works great. I use it in the boat and motorhome. It is quiet, moves a lot of air and is easy on the battery drawing 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 amps on the respective settings. Mine was made by the folks that make the Fantastic Fan for RVs. Same fan actually, they just added a portable box frame.

On my 22 Cruiser I just set it on the cabin sole to blow into the V berth at the low speed at night. During the day it can be moved most anywhere around the cabin or cockpit.

I suppose in dead calm, no current conditions you could aim it toward the stern and propell yourself along in stealth mode?

Hi Al!

I've got both, but have only used the Endless Breeze, which is a wonderful fan. It's very efficient, running from around .8 amps on low to around 2.6 amps on high. The big, fan blades are it's secret to efficiency and quiet operation.

I also have two of the O2Cool units, too, but have never wired them up for use in the boat. All three are in my Sea Ray, not my CD-22, which has smaller, somewhat less efficient and noisier fans, but they do have the oscillating feature.

Dr Bob (Thataway) first discovered the O2Cool fans at Walmart, and there is a thread comparing the two here: A Tale of Two Fans

There is quite a bit of difference in cost, the O2Cools going for around $15 at WalMart, and the Endless Breeze going for $70-$90 and up, depending on the source.

The O2Cool fan moves alot of air, creates an accepable level of white noise, and draws little power. It is one of the best tools on the boat.

We love our Endless Breeze. Runs all night and it's quiet...worth the money if you have a light sleeper onboard. It moves a lot of air. We also have the O2 Cool with the batteries and we use it in the cockpit area. Works good, too. We set the EB up to point into the berth from the cabin floor or the driver's seat. Kept a lot of air moving on sticky nights.

I made a mistake. After consulting with the Admiral I found out that we use an 02 Cool fan not an endless breeze. Sorry about the mix up. I would suggest that you look at the 02 Cool. The correct one that I talked about has a lot of nice features and was not high priced
 
I picked up a second "walmat/ozark O2 cool" at the end of the summer for $9.95. This and the Endless Breeze both work well. We keep two 1/2" or 5/8" dowels on the boat, with some electical ties and put the fan (either one) over the hatch. It moves air very well, and we rarely use the airconditioning at night. For the buck, the WalMat special is the best buy. But the Vantastic, Endless breeze is a much more quality item. We have two of these on our RV and one on our van, as well as the one on the Tom Cat...well worth the costs...
 
The O2Cool fan came with an ac adapter. I cut the line after the transformer and spliced on a 12V DC male plug. So far nothing has blown up or burned out so we consider the alteration a success. This saves the necessity of carrying batteries for the fan.

Thanks to everyone for your advice; I can see an Endless Breeze in our future. There have been a few times we did not go out for an overnight because the weather was too beastly hot and humid. Bob's idea is somewhat what I was thinking of, except that we have to have our mosquito netting velcroed over the open hatch. But we could use the same method with the dowels run through four cable anchors at the corners of the hatch and dangle the fan below the netting. Bob, do you plug your fans into the 12V outlet on the dash? I guess it would be a simple matter to put another outlet in the V-berth and closer to the fan.

Al, you could use the fan either on the top of the hatch, or suspended under the hatch/netting with the dowling rods.

We have one 12 volt cig plug on each side on the aft (our head) side of the V berth of the C D 22 and the CD 25, along with a small fan attatched to the underside of the deck, for air circulation inside of the boat (heat as well as cooling)

On the Tom Cat, we have two plugs at the head (port side on our boat) of the bunk and one at the foot. The cig plugs are use for the larger fan, for I pods, CD players, small reading lights etc. We find that they are most convient. There is also two at the helm, one on the navigators side, one under the dinette and one outside (for the inflatable pump or an extra cockpit light)
