Dreamboat

I haven’t been able to sleep on a boat since 2003 or so. I missed it terribly. We had a large skiff until about 2015 but it never occurred to us to modify it and sleep on it.
Tonight I’m in a comfy chair. Feet are elevated and the boat gently rocks. This marina is next to Ed Stone Park. It has a restaurant that serves okay food and the wait staff is more than up to the task. From my seat along the wall I watched, for the first time, space X take off. Impressive.
The boat is loaded and provisioned (by an ametuer). Nothing is stowed. My Stowee Gal couldn’t make it as she is still working in a greenhouse somewhere In NJ. I miss her.
So far I like the twin 40’s.
Definitely needs a camper tent.
I wonder if we will change the name? The precious names were pretty unique. The Dog likes the whole deal. He said it’s the cats Meow.
Dreams can come true. I splashed it around 2pm.

Congratulations on the new to you boat Don. Colby was by our house today. He will be at Hontoon, and bring our greetings to you.

Enjoy your sleep. You have a lot of great adventures ahead.

Congratulations Don!

You've done yourself proud. I approve of the configuration.

Very similar to when we purchased a 2000 22 cruiser in green livery with twin 40 Hondas back in 2009.

You will love it as we did!

Thanks, everyone, i’m heading for Silver Glen Springs as it looks like it will be closed one of these days. Might as well see it while I’m here. I really enjoyed watching SpaceX takeoff last night. What a special opportunity that was. Colby better hurry or by the time he gets here, I’ll be out of gas. The steering won’t work and I’ll have lost my anchor, Yep all the things I talked about for the last year are bound to happen. Just kidding what a beautiful place this is.

The St. Johns River is my favorite river in N. America. There are many places to explore off the main river. Some parts are basically unchanged for several hundred years. There are evidences of the indigenous peoples who lived there for centuries.

There are some great books on the River.

The River of Lakes:
Exploring the St.Johns
Travels on the St. Johns
St. Johns River Guide book
St. Johns & Ocklawaha Rivers (Images of America: Florida)
There are 3 fishing maps--great for exploring
There are the NOAA charts -free print outs, or you can buy hte booklets.

For many years the Railroad stopped at Jacksonville and the wealthiest of America would then take steam ships up the river to verious spas and estates. Some of these are still standing. After Flagler built the railroads to Miami and the keys, the St. John's fell out of favor

Audubon explored the lower reaches, and studied some of the birds. I was disappointed to learn he killed each bird he studies.

Harriet Beecher Stowe lived on the St. Johns River. (Uncle Toms Cabin) and Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings's (The Yearling) Both lived along the St. John's River.

William Bartram wrote about the nature, Indians and trading posts on the St. Johns when he visited the River.

If you get a chance try and go up the Econlockhatchee River (Econ) to the. outskirts of Orlando. It is often impassible. I am aware of about 5 Dory owners who had done at least part of the
Econ

Silver Glen Springs, on a weekend? Good luck with that. You'll see why when you get there. (Unless you get there very early!)

Great info Bob. I like the river and could fish here forever. But I bet the creepies in Black water. I simply won’t swim in it. Fishing is great, but I also wanna be in an area where I can get in the water and enjoy it so tonight I am anchored in silver Glen Springs and it’s gorgeous turtles are under me swim by and there’s a lot of fish jumping out in Lake George. I went for a swim.

My boat met its twin. Tony was anchored there I “Rolling Thunder” and helped me get anchored. Great place. Tony will be at Hontoon next week.

Donald, glad you got into Silver Glen already. You'll find by tomorrow afternoon, and definitely on Saturday, the place will be packed. Get yourself a good spot before everyone shows up. Have you seen any Manatees yet? They will sometimes frequent Silver Glen before the crowds arrive. Glad that you are doing some exploring before the gathering. We're still on schedule to launch Monday, hopefully before noon. Got potable water put on the boat today. Once we get launched, we'll probably head down to the south end of the Hontoon Dead River. Plan to go down the St. John's and use the cut over to make sure it's open, before doing the tour around the island on Thursday.

I’m out of here shortly. Don’t want to see this gorgeous place full of boat. Want to remember it as it is. Couple of manatees, oodles of fish, turtles and a resident eagle. I’m on the hunt for a place called Blue Springs. Hopefully will stay there tonight. I haven’t figured out this Origo 400 yet. Haven’t tried. Do I need Matches?

Baby Steps.

Maybe they’ll have some at Pier 44. I should be there in two hours. It was a little bit rough for me crossing Lake George as I had to slow it down to 13 mph to get in time with the waves. Then when I turned it down when I kicked it back up to 20. Just leaving the lake now back into the regular river.

A barbecue lighter works well on these alcohol stoves.

You should have a gasket that need to be remove before use, if not present, the alcohol will evaporate quite fast. Even with the gasket, it will evaporate so unless you know it was filled up recently, it’s probably empty. If you have 2 burner, you can just fill one if you are not planning to use it much.
They are great stove and extremely safe. Not quite as much heat output as propane, but unless you are in a huge hurry to get your coffee in the morning, it won’t make a big difference.

Well. So it is a good stove. Apparently Tom replaced the Wallace with this. I have a microwave and an electric coffee pot so I would only use this for the main meat course. Great day on The river. Started at the springs. Ended up at the Yacht Club. Long freak’n day but met incredible people.

In my opinion it is a very good stove, very simple and few thing to go wrong. Fuel is readily available and like I said before, safe fuel in a boat, if you spill some, just wipe it and clean your windows with it.
If you are not happy with it, I can take it off your hand :D

I like the simplicity of the stove, but at least I can get rid of it if I don’t like it thanks. All in all the boat is very nice, but it needs to be thoroughly organized with a system of storage that everyone can understand. So for right now, everything is just out on the Counters waiting for my wife to organize them when I get home. I see some betting needs. I see some potty needs, but mostly I just see the need for organization.

I’m always happy to help another boater.

Organization can take time and it’s ok. It’s nice to use the boat some (and you seems to be enjoying that very much right now, that’s awesome) and figuring out where you want things to be. do you have storage under the v-berth?
