Departure Day. I am now on vacation. Final preparations are under way. I retire April 29. We start our Great Loop Tour on April 30. The four of us, the Admiral me and two dogs, are eagerly awaiting the start of a new life. Cocoon will be a great vehicle.

hi dave,
that is awesome news, first the retirement, a life time of waiting for this day and now it's here! please light the way, for the rest of us, soon to be retired folks! have a blast on the great loop and keep us posted with details and pictures.
retirement means no pressure, no stress, no heartache... unless you are a boater!!!
congrats again,
pat

We are starting from our home base in St Petersburg. Go down and through Lake Okeechobee and up the ICW. We are saving the Keys and South Florida for this Winter when we get back. I don't know if we will do a blog. If we do, I would like to usurp Jim and Joan's style on Wild Blue.

Dave,
When you get ready to do the New Jersey section let us know. We might /do have suggestions or some local knowledge. Although we are from Pa. we usually boat along the New Jersey coast when we are not out on the prowl cruising new spots. We are a little over an hour away. If you need anything let us know. Enjoy yourself congradulations you made it. :)

Congratulations! I retired a few years ago from IBM and I still feel the relief of fully owning my life! Well except for IRS and such things but having free time is a special reward. You are also so lucky to have your C-Dory and the ability to go on a grand adventure.

I just added a C-Dory to my life and when I finish a few things on it, after getting back from a month in Hawaii, I intend to begin my C-Dory adventures. In the mean time I look forward to following yours. I second, or was that third, the desire for pictures. I spend many hours poring over the C-Dory albums and pulling for those out there in adventure land.

I'll drop you a line when we get close.

I have yet to be able to do pictures. I will learn. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Ron,
We use a verizon wireless USB modem with a Cradlepoint CTR 350p wireless router that will allow my wife and I to surf the net using the same wireless card. The other idea is for Pictures. We use Picassa which is a free software to catalog your pictures which you can download off the net. The way I work my picture thing is take the pictures daily I transfer the pictures to Picassa on my computer. The pictures I want to put in my album on the C-Brat site I email to my self then open them up and save in my download file on my computer. This resizes the pictures so they wwill be accepted as a smaller sized file when you transfer them from the download file to your photo album. Open your album click on the drop down which will say add pictures. A new window will open allowing you to load up five pictures at a time. Hit the browse button on the new window select the picture double click on it do that four more times and scroll to the bottom and hit upload and wala the pictures will appear in your album. I'm sure others will pipe up about how to add pictures to your posts. I don't know how thats done yet just as well. I use captions on the pictures as to explain what they are about. PM me if you have any questions.

I am now officially retired. I just got home from my retirement party. The boat is loaded(and so am I). Just a few more things to do. West Marine is getting a new chip for the Raymarine, which I will pick up tomorrow. Lots of details for the long duration trip.

WE WILL BE LEAVING TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on reaching retirement! May it outlast all the years you worked and be filled with joy, new experiences and health.

Dave,

Congratulations! I have been away for a while and didn't see this thread when you first started it. Hope you have the time of your life - what a way to start your retirement! :thup :thup

Speaking of retirement, that has been my favorite job so far. Your timing will put you in the best places at the best times. One bit of advice, based on years of boating and RVing, and meeting lots of newly retired folks: allow yourself plenty of time to enjoy the "nooks and crannies" and any side trips that suit your fancy. We will look forward to following along with your reports.

Enjoy! :D

Best wishes,
Jim B.
