Clever girl!

Trump was referring to a technology which as been developed by ATUY Bioscience, in conjunction with Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. The product is "Healight". This utilizes a specific wavelength of ultra violet which will apparently not harm the human cells, but will apparently kill the virus. It has been used successfully on skin lesions. A contract was let for manufacture of catheters to transmit this light into the lungs as an experimental procedure. I have no idea if it has merit or not. But Cedar's/Sinai is a highly respected medical center--probably the best in Los Angeles. Interestingly the videos that ATUY Bioscience about the product were almost immediately taken off the internet by U Tube, Facebook and Twitter.

I have no idea what scientific method that is referred to in the latter few seconds of the video. What is said should be vetted. However it turns out that the "lights" inside the body was not far fetched....

I am using an UV light with a very specific wavelength to sterilize masks.

Bob,

I hate to say it, but this is a very misleading post. First, what's your source for knowing that Trump had this technology in mind? The well sourced reports say that Trump had missed the Task Force meeting, and so was briefed very quickly just before he stepped into the press room by William Bryan, an official with the Department of Homeland Security. Bryan told him that their testing showed UV and disinfectants kill viruses on hard surfaces within seconds (something you, and I, and many others already know). Trump took that basic information and extended it into his brilliant ideas of "cleaning the lungs". When was Trump briefed on the "Healight" technology?

However it turns out that the "lights" inside the body was not far fetched....
This is also misleading. Of course you can put light inside the body. I can put a flashlight in my mouth, but that's not what we are talking about here. Trump was suggesting disinfecting inside the lungs. Even the press release between ATUY Bioscience and Cedars Sinai Hospital you refer to says:

"The company licensed exclusive worldwide rights to the technology from Cedars-Sinai for all endotracheal and nasopharyngeal indications."

These companies are not suggesting for one second that this device could be used inside the lungs or to rid the body generally of coronavirus, but only to treat accompanying complications/infections in the nasal and throat passage ways. Getting such a device inside the lungs would be impossible (as I assume you of all people would know).

P.S. BTW, this exchange belongs in the "Is it worth it..." thread, not in this humor thread.

I agree that this is the wrong thread to make unfounded statements regarding Trump's untrustworthy and false pronouncements about Covid 19, however, since this particular subject has been raised......

This is just one more effort to try to normalize Trump's behavior. If a lie is repeated often enough it somehow becomes accepted. One such lie is "fake news". Since being accused of being fake, the mainstream media has bent over backwards to normalize and try to explain his bizarre behaviors. One example is Trump rallies. If you have ever been at a Trump rally and viewed it in a rational manner, you would see how completely strange they are and where its main purpose is to instigate and incite.

By trying to normalize his behavior the media and other defenders have had to resort to false equivalencies. Trying to balance Trump's actions against anyone right or left is beyond absurd.

Just read in USA Today, that Wyoming opened bars and strip clubs. One of the reporters went an opening: "Masks required, clothing optional".

Avoid/criticize mask wearing at your peril.

If you don't get it, consider the mask fabric* porosity is much larger than the virus.
Also know the virus is contained in MUCH LARGER PARTICLES** less likely to
penetrate the fabric thereby helping protect the wearer of the mask to inhale the
virus from others; i.e, good 4 U.

Others nearby also benefit from the mask wearer's exhalations by helping contain
the larger particles in the mask; i.e., good 4 others.

Aye.
* say doubled cotton t-shirt fabric
**like oral/nasal secretions, other droplets spread talking, coughing, sneezing,
yelling, shouting, singing, laughing, crying....

Grandpa used to say, "Masks, like roadways, telephones and some people, work
going both ways."

There is a viable option DIY for the N 95 mask. This uses Filti material, which is similar to active layer in 3 M N 95 mask. There is a pediatrician who has designed and fit tested a number of cloth masks with this material as an insert. The inserts cost about 50 cents per use. Masks can be washed daily. These are bing worn by at risk hospital personal to protect themselves from the virus.

We are seeing large surges of COVID19 hospitalizations and more younger persons infected in Florida, where many have abandoned the masking and social distancing! I agree, with Foggy, be very aware of not masking.

In Texas, our Governor issued an order that local governments (county or city) cannot require masks to be worn in public. Our county and the next one over (Cameron and Willacy) did an end run around that by issuing orders that masks have to be worn (as of yesterday) in all businesses, staff and customers. They cleared that with the State Attorney General.

Frankly, it is necessary in our county, because people are being irresponsible about social distancing and masks. There is a remarkably rapid rise in cases and hospitalizations, with the largest group affected now being age 20 to 29, followed closely by age 30 to 39.

I am surprised by the outright animosity between the masking/non-masking factions, with each side gathering up "experts" to bolster their side of the argument.

We do our best to stay away from all of 'em.

BTW, boating is a great way to socially distance. 8)
