No joking on my part. One doesn't have to look far to see this in action. Those who think they know everything are pissing off those of us who actually do. (OK, that is a joke.) Directly regarding the virus: those who think the virus is "a hoax or a scam" will only realize the seriousness of the situation when they, or someone they care about, is impacted.

Size of COVID-19: 120 nm = 0.120 micron

Pore size cotton fabric: 20 - 100 microns (2 layers overlapped decrease pore size)
Pore size coffee filter: 5 - 100 microns (added to above decrease pore size further)

So, 2 layers of t-shirt fabric + 1/2 of a #2 coffee filter may have overlapping
'pores' that can trap medium-large particles containing the much smaller virus.

Tom, You are correct. The COVID 19 subject has slipped out of the lime light on this forum, and I am guilty of replying to a thread which I felt was important--that of the importance of wearing a mask and the filtration effects--as well pointed out by "Foggy".

It was an attempt to get attention to this very serious pandemic, which some are trivializing --and hopefully save a few lives. My apology.

To each their own. However folks are still dying from Covid 19, and that is NOT funny. But sometimes it de-stresses a situation to make light of it. I've enjoyed, laughed, learned & cringed from comments in this thread. Divisive politics has sadly become a huge frustration that has taken it's toll on many of us. But sadly too many have allowed this virus and it's pandemic to become political, when it affects us all equally. Anything any of us can do easily to help prevent others (or ourselves) from dying (or getting deathly ill) shouldn't become a political battle. That should really be the bottom line. Fortunately for many of us here, we have boats that allow us to socially distance ourselves in isolation surrounded by beautiful environments! :wink: Colby

Back to the serious(ly not so funny side of this thread) with apologies from a guy who wore a mask for many hours many days, to keep from getting some nasty bugs.

"If you don't like wearing a mask now, You are really going to not like wearing a ventilator." Well, unless you enjoy taking paralytic and amnesiac drugs for days on end, occasionally getting an extra hole in your neck to breath through, and spending several hours a day working with physical therapy to get back walking muscles.

Now that is really (not) funny.

Well, the truth is, once you are sick enough and feel like you are dying (and
maybe you are) to need a ventilator, just before you are intubated and placed
on the ventilator, your terror is then eliminated by IV drugs designed to keep
you deeply sedated, or asleep, enabling you to tolerate the endotracheal tube
passed past your larynx and vocal cords into your trachea. At that point, you
have no conscious distress, no pain. And, then you will not know if you survive
or die (alone).

This virus is not to be taken lightly. Some nay-sayers will perish. Before they
do, those who don't will make survival much more hellish for others by spreading
the disease.
