canvas snaps

I recently had a cockpit cover made and installed with stainless snaps. After just a few months the snaps corroded and became difficult to snap or unsnap. Any suggestions for replacement snaps that might hold up better?
Thanks for the help.

There are several brands of snap lubricate that are sold for this. The one I use is called Snap Stick by Shurhold. I get it from Amazon. I also buy replacement snaps from Amazon or Mcmaster Carr. I just look for marine grade snaps.

There is also this pricey little gadget that allows you to separate the snaps without yanking on the material. You can use it like a lever against a hard surface or twist in when the snap is between two canvas pieces. I've had success with it. For replacements, look for stainless steel male and female (including the wire ring on female). Nickel-plated brass never holds up for me.

You can get quality lift the dot snaps from Sailrite. That is my source. They are easy to set, if you own the proper tools or anvil.

I have let go with "Thataway" a fitting to lift the snaps like Marco linked, but mine had nice teak handles (from an era when teak was cheaper than today).

You might just try a little squirt of "corrosion block" on the inside of the snap. This also is a very good material to prevent corrosion.
