unless something has changed Canada is still closed to anyone that is not full vaccinated. I will miss Canada for another year it looks like. Just pure stupidity at this point.

BTW - if you are visiting CA this summer in Vancouver area, be aware that rental cars are extremely limited in supply and quite expensive. Even renting off airport is difficult and limited. Not sure of the reasons, but we did change our plans and are now driving across vs flying.

I don't believe CA requires the booster yet...

Tom, you are not alone. There are many thousands of U.S. boaters who have not taken the jab. Boat travel in Canada may not happen this year for many but with that comes the opportunity to explore local waters more thoroughly.

I plan to spend a lot of time in Canada this summer. I'm a bit afraid that latent demand is going to make it crowded up there. For the first time, I'm grateful to the non-vaxxers :wink:.

It's not true that the border is closed to anyone not vaccinated. And that's not what I think, that's just a fact.

In all due respect, can you please show us a link that states otherwise? From what I have read recently; those wishing to travel into Canadian via personal watercraft from another Country must show that they are fully vaccinated when reporting to Canadian Customs. I would love to be proven wrong on this! Thank you. :) Gary

I'm up here in Bellingham and it's the first day that the border is more or less open to vaccinated travelers. The Costco here in town is madness right now, packed with Canadians. Apparently there was no food in Canada during the covids.

I used the travel wizard to see if I could take my boat across and I can not. I was not looking to see about work as that does not apply here. So that make even less sense then before. I guess covid is only a problem if you are having fun. What if I come there and promise not to smile??? Like I said at this point all these regulations are useless and useless things are stupid. We have both had the covid and lived, just like the other 99.9% who have been exposed to it. Its time for the politicians to stop the charade and go back to normal.

Tom, medical science doesn't agree with you. It is known that the COVID vaccines increase one's protection even if you've been previously infected by the virus; therefore, the "stupid" policy is more likely to be a policy of refusing to get the vaccine regardless of whether or not you've been previously infected. Here is an expert opinion (vs a layman's opinion) on the subject. This information was extracted from an article by the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

P.S. Also, from an enforcement point-of-view, it is much easier to document your vaccination status than to document the antibody levels in your body resulting from a possible infection that may have occurred (especially since a third of COVID-19 infections produce no measurable antibodies).
 
You missed the part where I said I don't care what others think. I believe what the Israelis published and you can go look that up if you want yourself if you want. As for Canada they atvthis point are being stupid for not letting some in but not others. I will only go back when no shot is required because I don't need one. Each show make there own choice and the man should mind his own damm buisness as should you.

Your choice, Tom. And I understand that you don't care what others think. We chose to get the full offering of jabs, and will get the second booster as soon as we can. We will enjoy boating in Canada as well as driving up to Vancouver for Granville Island. I disagree that the Canadian policy is "useless" or "stupid," but as on many other points, we can disagree. I still count you among my friends!
 
Hi pat. Did you ever decide about that pot puller or the electronics? Can not wait to get back out on the water. Its been 6 month since we used the boat. Winter pheasant and duck hunting consumes me all winter.
 
We just got back from from a week or so in the PNW visiting family. Entering in Idaho was routine and coming back through Aldergrove was easy. My wife downloaded and completed the ArriveCan Ap ( https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/ ... vecan.html ) prior to our departure. She finalized information as drove north from Astoria.

We waited in line about 45 mins. Our interaction with Canadian officials took less than 5 mins. The whole process was painless.

In summary it was not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. In 50 years of crossing borders, we have had other experiences that were far more challenging. :thup
 
starcrafttom, I did what you suggested and tried to look up the Israel report. The only ones I found were the reports about how well their vacc campaign went, the risk of myocarditis and the need for a booster shot. None of those look like an article that said non-vacc was better than vacc.

Could you please give some link or reference to the Israel report you reference? I ask because our non-vacc daughter is coming over for Easter and I'd like to have a decent discussion with her.

This "Israeli report" has caused much confusion since it was released last summer. This report ("Maccabi Healthcare Services" report) is often quoted as saying that "natural immunity" is some 13 times more effective at preventing reinfection with Delta than someone who had the 2 shot mRNA vaccine getting infected. Non-vaxxer's quote this 13x number all the time.

However, there are problems with taking this as gospel. First, the study is based purely on statistics found in existing databases (this was not a study with actual participants etc). Second, the study is out-of-date now (the data itself was from early 2021). Third, many reputable medical scientists question the techniques of the study (there are several selection bias problems; plus the study was not based on randomized data).

Today with the boosters available and such, the Maccabi study results no longer really reflect reality. Today it is known that natural immunity alone is least effective; full vaccination next most effective, and vaccination on top of natural immunity is most effective. If I were you, I would do other research in addition to this study before you talk it over with your daughter.
 
I wonder what science is being employed as the US southern border continues to be overwhelmed. If vaccination and public health was important, this would not be happening.
