Cabin fan shuts off when throttling up ?

I recently installed a Camano 3 speed Bora fan over the helm seat. It seemed to work and now shuts off when rpm's go over 1500 rpm in forward and and throttleup in reverse.
Any ideas? Thanks.

You must have picked a bad power or ground source  :beer ?

Where did you pick up the power for the fan? It sounds like it is on one of the instruments and you are getting a voltage drop at higher RPM's.

I put in a second fuse block and a second set of #8 wires to the house batteries for electronics and other additions such as fans and accessory plugs.

I've wired it to a seperate positive bus bar/fuse box but I may have doubled up the negative ground with something else.
I'll check it tomorrow.
Thanks.

If you ran power to this bus from the battery, then you also need
to add a dedicated neutral back to the battery. You can't just use
some other neutral.

The fan has electronics in them to adjust the speed and turn them on and off. I bought 2 of these and installed them, they are junk. Because the the motor is mounted backwards the fans rotation is reversed and when the cabin gets hot with the fans on high the blade spins off into the fan cage (bad design) The wires do have polarity and you can't reverse them because of the electronic switch. The good side is they are very quiet, but I think that is because they hardly move any air. I took both of mine back and got different ones that work. I think the company is going to be hating these because of all the returns.

Mike's point is well made--and I should have stated when I add a second fuse block, I also add a second negative bus (the second #8 wire). But if a negative bus is used, --the origional one--the fan should work fine--you really don't want to be running a lot of negative wires. You can end up with a "ground loop" and some problems with the electronics if you start a number of separate negitative circuits. I find it good to have one negitative right by the engine--which the engine connects to, and a second in the console. I feed this second one with the origional negative wire and the second #8 wire I put in--even the second negative bus is connected directly to the originoal negative bus.

What is the make and model of the fans you ended up with? Got a link?

Thanks,
Warren

My post was a little off course, But I hate to see anybody pay $70 per fan and have them work the way they do. The fans that I bought are ugly but they sure do move the air. They have a soft plastic blade with no guards, so when there spinning you can see right through them. I cut then power plug off and wired then in. I do have a house battery buss so they are not wired into the starting battery. I made new mounts for them and mounted them to some ram mounts so they can be position about anywhere. I'll post some pics later tonight in my upgrades folder. Here is the link to Boaters World http://www.boatersworld.com/product/338 ... ns-heaters

It is called a ram mount you can get them from bw, wm, or cabelas. I made the little diamond white piece out off starboard to connect the 2 together. I have been thinking about using some kind of power connector in the cable, then you could just move the fan to different mounts in the boat and use less fans.
