C-Dory Sightings

OK, went crabbing yesterday (Sat, 7/31/04) at Eliza Island, got skunked - lots of little females, but NO keepers - crap! Anyway, for the heck of it, we motored over to Inati Bay on Lummi Island - what a sweet little spot! We are going to spend a night on the hook there some time soon! As we came in, we spotted a green 22 cruiser stern tied to the beach, couldn't read the name, Patty thought it was something like Lil Sensation - waved and said hello to the people on shore, not able to chat with them...

My wife and I spent this last week exploring the Oregon coast between Pacific City and Coo's Bay. Our first CD sighting occurred at the mouth of the Siuslaw River west of Florence on July 28th at about 1:30 pm. The ocean was pretty nasty at the mouth and the CD operator took the conservative approach and made the "U-turn." No name on the 22 Cruiser, but it looked like a chinese junk  with the sunshade over the open area. It was powered by a Honda 75 4-stroke.

On that same day, late in the afternoon, we located a very old CD (22ft.?)Angler in the marina located behind Betty Kay Charters in Charleston, OR. I found this boat very interesting. Naturally, it had the old style flat bottom and much to my surprise, the motor was located in an open well. I haven't seen this before. It would make working on the motor very easy! Name on the boat was "Little Toot." Boat registration number was OR 658 PB. I couldn't resist getting on my knees and reaching in the water to see if there was a runner on the outside edge - NOPE! I suspect this forerunner was a limited production. Too bad, as I liked what I saw!

On Tuesday we were in Montague Harbor looking for the bakery barge when we saw a 22 Cruiser (Water Rat) at anchor. No one was on board but have seen this boat one other time at Blakely Island fuel dock.
On Friday in Reid Harbor, Stuart Island we saw Al and Karen's old boat (Ursa Minor) at a private dock, no one around.

Hi Daydream,
Looks like the crabbing hasn't changed over there by Eliza Island. Joe, oldest son & grandsons went out there about three years ago in the old 22' CD that we had and they didn't get a thing either. They were kind of disgusted!!!! But we've looked over that cove you mentioned and it sure does seems like a neat place.

Onto CD sightings this weekend: Today in Anacortes on T Street we found a green 16' CD sitting in a boat repair yard. Vessel name looked like "Sparkle Plenty"? Wasn't there a character in the comics with that name? Also drove by EQ Marine just to see what Les has in the yard. There's a cute 16' CD (same color as Daydream), no name or numbers. Maybe there's gonna be a new C-Brat member?

Sunday evening, July 31, as we were putting into the Willamette at the I-5 junction for a little water skiing, we spotted another '22 C-Dory at the dock, but no time to say hello. Sorry about that.

Wow! Monday, three C-Dory's in one day. The first sighting was at 4:30 AM on I-5 Bellingham. It was northbound. A blue older flat-bottomed 22' Angler with the wooden bulkhead. How Joe managed to see all this in the dark in just a few seconds as we were driving south is beyond me. The other two C-Dory's were located about 5PM at Master Marine in Mount Vernon. One is a blue 22'. If I read the numbers correctly, it's a 1991 model. Someone has taken very good care of this boat but they haven't given it a name. Just loved the woodwork where they've mounted the radio, etc. The other C-Dory was red and didn't have a name either. Hard to read the numbers but I think it was a 16' 1988 model.

The August Sea Magazine has a feature story on Port Ludlow, I believe. The primary photo scanned the marina, and included four C-Dorys. Cool deal for those owners.

Went to a meeting in Astoria this morning and saw what I thought was a C-Dory coming down the river so I pulled off to check it out. Sure enough an unknown to me 22 cruiser. I tried to get a name but just to far away even with my small binos so I went down the river where I figured it would be within range and was able to make out the name off "E-Ticket". Couldn't make out registration so I don't know where they were from. It was an older model with wood hand rails and a wood grain door but in great looking shape. Also had a couple of kayaks on a roof rack plus a four cornered canvas cover mounted above the kayaks over the cockpit. Kind of a need set-up.

Hi All,
Rick and I were over your way last weekend for an impromptu trip and spotted the Anna Leigh coming into Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes on Friday. By the time we made it over to them, they had left the boat. We went up to the festival in the rain and on the way back noticed they were gone. Sorry we missed you guys.
Went crabbing over at Stuart Island Saturday and saw red/white 22', the Island Flyer anchored there in Prevost Harbor. Are they C-Brats? Anyway had great crab dinner and anchored out for the night, which was calm and beautiful. We had a wonderful brunch at Olga's. It was fantastic. Then Sunday, we had to fly back to Idaho and 99 deg. weather, boo hoo.

we went out for a cruise today. started at the Camano Island State Park and went over to Langley for lunch. There was what looked to be a new 16 ft cruiser with full canvas tied to the dock. The harbormaster said it belongs to someone there in Langley. I left my calling card on the windshield wiper.

As we were driving south I-5 this morning there was somebody with a nice looking :thup 22' green CD headed north near the Stanwood exit about 7:30 AM. No name on the boat.

As i was fishing in my current boat and dreaming about c-dorys in the spring I saw 4 today . one 25ft called the something horse, a 16 going fast around possesion, another 19 angler trolling in the distance and the a newer 22 ran by me off of possision heading west around the green can. what are you guys trying to do to me? isn't having to drool on my keyboard enough for you people!!!!

Judy and I went to the Willipa bay today and saw one 22 light blue or grey C-Dory which was heading east on highway 12 from westport area. Saw a 16 foot blue angler at Willipa and talked to him for a while. told him of our web site and asked him to look in on us. Hope he does. Judy :D caught one small silver and I got NOTHING. Durn  fish. Now out to clean off the boat for my next trip Lyle

As we were northbound I-5 about 2:30PM we spotted the Bess-C southbound near Mount Vernon. Just before that there was a 16' CD also southbound with dark trim (almost looked black) but couldn't see if there was a name.

Also Thursday 6:30AM at the Smokey Point Safeway there was a dark blue 22CD getting fueled up. Introduced myself and told the owners about the C-Brats website. They'd purchased their CD from Les and were going fishing for silvers near Mukilteo. Hopefully I've remembered their names correctly (Jim & Patty) as anymore my CARS kicks in (Can't Always Remember Stuff). When I returned to the shop Joe asked me if (1) was it an angler or a cruiser :?: (2) what kind of motors did it have :?: (3) what year was it :?:....Guess we'll just have to wait to hear from these nice folks to find out.

Thursday we were crabbing at Girabaldi and seen a 22' burgundy cruiser with no name and a black 16 footer, I think the name was Osprey Dawn.

I saw a 22' Cruiser the "U/W Hunter" in Kennewick WA on 9/9/04. Beautiful green trim. It sported the extra tall cabin.

On 08/08/04 we talked to the owner of a 16' C-Dory owned by Captain Cooke, in Post Falls ID. Med blue trim.

Had to work up in Seaside this morning and got back to Cannon Beach shortly before noon. Just before getting off the highway I passed a green 22" cruiser with big motor and kicker being towed by a mid sized SUV of the Toyota or Nissan type. No name on the boat. That makes an awful lot of green 22's in little old Cannon Beach this week. The "Old Forester" and I who both live here, Bill and El were here with the Halcyon and left for lake Powell about 10:00 this morning, and this new mystery cruiser that went through town. Four green C-Dories, all 22' cruisers and in a town with a population of 1,500.

Somebody's boats are headed towards them. I just saw a semi loaded with a red 22', a blue 25' and a 16' headed east on I-82 near Ellensburg, Washington.

They were all brand new, with no rigging, so must be headed towards a dealer east of Washington state.

Nice Sighting!!

I didn't see any strange CDs lately, but I did hear from a guy at work who said he saw a CD25 just like mine in the Willamette this past weekend. He motored his bass boat close to see it said TyBoo on the side, but it had some other name. I asked if the name was Shearwater, and he said that sounded right. So, Steve, what are you doing floating that boat in that slough with the bass boats?
