C-Dory Sightings

My 40 something son Joe rode the Seattle to Portland bike ride on Saturday. He completed it in one day, riding a $35 frame in a fixed gear. Then he calls me to say excitedly that he saw two C-Dorys! I raised him right.

A lot of people are intimidated by computers and the internet in
general. Some hear stories about their computers getting hacked, etc.
So, they may well be lurkers...

Heading to Victoria today - 21 Jul about 1150hr (to pick up my new radar) and saw a C-Dory with green trim and WN registration trailering north on the Trans-Canada Hwy just north of Duncan, Vancouver Island, BC.
 
On our way out of town we went through Port Angeles and saw a couple of C-Dorys: Current Events, a 22 Angler in the boat basin and at the public docks next to Hollywood Beach, a 22 Angler that said "Enforcement" on the sides where a name would usually be. There was an insignia that said something like Resources Managment and I believe it had some sort of Indian design. Wasn't until after I left that I put it together that it might be traveling with the Indian canoe journey, since there were about 10 of the big wooden canoes up on the beach. Sure wish I would have had my camera with me.

Harvey, that boat belongs to the Quinault Indian Tribe. It lives in the village of Taholah where the Quinault river meets the Pacific Ocean. I deliver groceries up there during the school year. I often wonder what kind of travels that boat takes.

Thanks for the info. I went back the next day and got some decent photos of both the CD and the canoes. Fabulous weather for the canoe pix. Just don't know how to get them into this posting.
The canoe trip is a pretty increadable feat, accomplished each year. This year, thanks to a passing pleasure boat wake, a crew from West Sannich, up by Sidney, BC, was capsized. All crew were rescued, and the craft was towed to shore near Ediz Hook, Port Angeles. Last year, in rough water, a canoe over turned and 60 year old tribal leader was lost, here in the Juan de Fuca. Yes Harvey, the canoe journey is pretty incredible. So is my wife, Caryn. She's been paddling in the canoe journey for 10 years now, this will be her 11th starting tomorrow. I've served as her personal support boat for the last two years and will be doing the same this year. Great fun and a great cause! :thup

Just returned from our trip of crusing Lake Superior. While at Pike's Bay marina I noticed another 22 foot cruiser named Catherine II docked close by. Anyone know anything about her? Never see the owner while there but would have been fun to meet up with them. Had a great time cruising the Islands, This will have to be a every year event for us in the future. So much room to cruse compared to running the St Croix river near home. Will continue to explore this area more in the future retirement years. This little craft makes it all possible and we just love it.

We were going through the lock at Ballard today and saw Brock on Bambina as we got into the conga-line. Wound up with Bambina rafted next to us...

Got to visit for a while while locking through. I heard the folks on the big boat that we were rafted to say, "It looks like Dr. Evil and Mini-Me." :mrgreen:

while out fishng the last two days I saw a few c-dorys.. C-fisher, caution horse, gigi, two 16s and two 22 anglers. not to mention fishing form both c-dancer and susan -E.
 
We went to LaConner for lunch yesterday, saw two 22 cruisers on the Swinnomish Channel - Scamp and Full Circle. There was also an unnamed gray 16 all buttoned up at the private float near the foot of Morris Street.
 
I stopped by JWMarina to check the traffic today, and saw a neat, blue CD headed into the fuel dock. Bambino, a 16, just finished crossing from Roche Harbor, and headed around past Port Townsend. Nice to meet you Brock, a pleasure and I hope for you safe travels on to home. When someone on the dock asked where you were from, (Had a Canadain Courtesy flag up) and I told them, they said why would he do that in that little boat. I just said, "Because he can :smiled "

Spotted a little 16' C-dory with burgundy canvass tied to the dock in Hoqiaum river while kayaking, as always a good looking boat.
 
Near Shipwreck today, I say "Little Toot" a red 16 and "In Debt" a 22' or 25', legacy model
 
Tuesday, September 11, while out cruising around a very flat B'Ham Bay we spotted HALCYON near Fairhaven. Visited for a few minutes before they went into Squalicum Harbor. Shortly after that also in B'Ham Bay we had a short visit with Richard (HOBBES). He's headed for the Gulf Islands.

Wednesday, September 12, needed to drive over to Oak Harbor & stopped by Cornet Bay. Noticed a CD down at the dock. We met Andi & Steve aka Milehog, owners of CHESTER.
 
We saw Frequent Sea (green CD) heading west on I-10 as we were heading east in New Mexico. Barely time to flash the lights, but it brought a smile to our faces. Long drive back to deep south Texas.

We were on I95 south around NJ or Marland State Line and saw a C-Dory going North with a Dingy on top of it. Wounder who that might be????

Had the distinct honor of running south out of Everett Washington this morning alongside C-Fisher. It was the annual Everett Coho derby.
