C-Dory Sightings

We saw our first C-Dory out on the water Sunday, just south of the Susquehanna Flats at the very head of the Chesapeake Bay. It was the C K-9, a 22 from Pennsylvania. 'Twas kind of cool to honk and wave at fellow C-Brats for the first time!

The Mrs. and I decided to pack the kids up and head for Port Ludlow today. As the Mrs. stated, "It was a great place to spend a holiday...no crowds." It was our first time there and lo and behold a beautiful blue C25 Ranger Tug pulls into the marina.

Those of you who've visited Port Ludlow know that there aren't too many places to eat so who should bump into us at the restaurant but Mac from Island Ranger. We had a very nice short chat.

Is it these boats that make people nice, or is it just nice people who buy these types of boats?

I'm just happy to be part of all this.

Thanks,

-Sarge/Carl

Picked up wife at work today, went out for dinner, then saw a C-Dory heading south on Hiway 99 through Tigard, OR around 6:45 PM. Lo and behold, Wanderer! What were they doing here? Heading for the OR coast?

Dang! I would have loved to said hello, but they were going the other way; gone in a flash! I'm still impressed with their AK slide show from last year!!!

Hey Terry...good eyes...you caught me sneaking out for a halibut. Had four guys in total and we decided to only bring 1 fish back.

Had fun in Newport...left at 6 am...pulled back in around 6pm.

Hope you get a chance to catch one them things.

On the way home by car from Langford Bay/Rock Hall today (Sunday) at about 1215. We were on the Bay Bridge nearing the Western shore. Saw a southbound green 22 with green canvas on plane approaching the bridge and about to pass underneath. The boat looked great from our vantage point way up above the water! Captain's choice, maybe?

Went on a nice trip on the St. Clair River today from the North Channel to a mile past the Ambassador Bridge. I was guest aboard a SeaRay 34 Sundancer. Passed two C-Dory 22' Cruisers. One passed us upbound making good time. The other was in the North Channel doing some fishing. Fine looking boats and is where my future lies. Also got passed by two well set-up Nordic Tugs; a 32 and a 37. Those are fine looking craft as well but it would take the lottery before I could get serious about one of those.

At Squalicum Harbor, Bellingham, WA today, while we were retrieving. Hank Brooks on Sea Skipper, a CD25, at the launch ramp about to depart for the Broughtons. Only time to say hello, he needed to get on his way and we had company waiting for us at Birch Bay. Also, Blue Raven, a CD22, headed out...exchanged "thumbs up," no chance to chat at all.

As we were nearing Pensacola Sunday PM, we saw a car towing an open 10 to 12 foot boat which looked like a C Dory--definately a semi Dory hull which looked like new (red bottom). Not sure if it was a one off, or if one of the local builders is building a semidory/small Panga.

I spoted a C-Dory 22' Angler in Port Charlotte here in Florida and talked to the owner. He was a cool guy and we were talking about making a bait bussines

Thursday afternoon when we stopped by Squalicum Harbor to check on the vehicles of some C-Brats we came across Hank Brooks (SEA SKIPPER). He'd just returned from the Broughtons. Smooth waters both ways. A really good trip.

Heading home from the weekend in the San Juans I spotted Bambina north bound on I-5. I called him on his cell phone. He is headed for a week in the Gulf Islands and then to Bellingham next weekend, small world.

Has anyone ever compiled stats on how many C-Dories have been manufactured (of various types, preferably) and how many of those are represented here as Brats?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Not as far as I know, but out cruising this weekend, we were struck by the fact that there are a lot of non-Brat C-Dorys out there, I think we saw five in the South Sound this weekend. There were two 22s at Wollochet Bay, one apparently permanently moored there, a gal fishing in a 16 at Eagle Island, a guy fishing in a 25 near Quartermaster Harbor, and a guy in 25 towing a dinghy I think as we were heading into Sinclair Inlet. The guy fishing in the 25 did not even look up, although I assume he must have been aware of us. The others smiled and waved. And we did not encounter any C-Brats that we know of. But it is striking to me, how can you own a C-Dory, a computer, and NOT find this place??
