C-Brat "Bucket List"

After the movie "Bucket List," the term has become common in describing some of those special things we'd like to while we still can.

Every C-Brat no doubt has his/her own list of boating ambitions and destinations. Things we want to do; and things we WILL do. Fantasy or not, Dreams begin with such thoughts. Let's hear them.

My Bucket List would definitely include the Inside Passage, and Lake Powell, but after reading some of Jim and Joan's comments on the Erie Canal and the Trent Severn, I'm back to Planning.

Bill and El have done it all, so I may make them the overall Judges. What would be the top ten places for a C-Brat Bucket List? (In a recent conversation with Bill, I "think" I heard El, in the background, suggest the Northwest Passage. Could it be???)

Best,
Casey

The Inside Passage to Alaska, around Vancouver Island, and the Queen Charlottes are all on my list. I'd also love to do Prince William Sound at some point. Some warm water cruising would also be nice, and I think Cuba would be an amazing trip.

Hi Casey,

We continue to work at our "list". There are some places we look forward to re-visiting, like the Pacific Northwest, but I have to say that Wild Blue has been the ideal vessel for the way (and the places) we cruise. Each time we explore a new area, we find that there is SO much to see and do.

Our list morphs as we read about new places. We have been to the Bahamas, but not with Wild Blue. Same for the Sea of Cortez. The RV figures into land traveling plans. At this point, I don't see a bottom to "the bucket." And that's just the way we like it.

Best wishes,
Jim & Joan

The Sea of Cortez  I saw Ann and Ron of Meander (C-Dory 25) in Puerto Escondido, Baja just south of Loreto last Feb. or was it March. They had done a lot of the Sea and are in Canada now. A PM from Ron said he is headed back to Baja after Christmas 2009. :smiled Me too but I'll be headed north on a 44' sailing boat from Zihuatanejo. Might get on Maya Oct. 26 and sail down the Pacific Coast of Baja, again to Cabo San Lucas.

Jim...I wish I had a much better handle on this photography stuff. :sad. I take the pictures and the Digital Movies but don't have a clue as to how to send them on. :film

The inside passage, the great loop, and the Bahamas.

We will see where we start on the list next spring. Enough of the staying home and fixing up two homes for resale. One sold, and the second on the market next week.

I am leaning toward the inside passage. Start in May and extend until August. Dixie is intrigued by the Great Loop, so we will see what happens.

Leaving in two weeks for a winter in Texas. When we return in March we will make Summer plans.

Too numerous to mention...have done the Inside Passage (once) and Lake Powell (twice), definitely will go back again and again to Powell. It will be a harder sell to Patty for the Inside Passage, she likes sun and warmth.

My first and foremost - the Great Loop, all of it! Patty's first and foremost - Sea of Cortez. But first we gotta stay healthy and live long enough to get retired!

In the meantime, we are enjoying the heck out of Daydream in the San Juans, on the several trips to various lakes, and even Andrews Bay in Lake Washington!

Am sure the bucket won't even be half full before my time runs out especially if the things to see and do are done slowly enough to really enjoy. Next is exploring Prince William Sound and a number of remote lakes in the Yukon. Hope to have those in the bucket this coming summer.

Jay

There are so many places I haven't seen, it's hard to put some order to a list. Next year, when I expect to be "mostly-retired", we hope to get a small RV that will pull the C-Dory and start on those land/sea adventures. First on the list will be Puget Sound and the San Juans, trips those of you in Washington must take for granted! I've only been there on your wonderful ferries and one weekend as crew on the Adventuress.

The Inside Passage is on the list, but I haven't decided yet if I'm brave enough for it.

A trip I've dreamt of is a few weeks wandering around the Sea of Cortez. It's fun to think of beautiful weather in a clear blue/green sea, especially when it's rainy and cold here in the NW. :tux Would love to hear from others who have done this trip, especially the road travel to get there.

Lived for a few years in Maryland and got to sail once in the Chesapeake (those Maryland blue crabs... even our Dungeness has a hard time competing!) That's a place I'd definitely like to see in the Dory. Oh! and I've never been in the Gulf. Many of your C-Brat stories make it sound so inviting.

One local/extended trip I have planned is the length of the Columbia River. I hope to do it in "sections", maybe a few days to a week at a time. I've read "River Horse" and El and Bill's river journey on Halcyon. Sounds exciting and something I can get to easily from Portland.

Hey, this list is really getting long. One could just keep going and going..... I guess that's the point, isn't it?

We will start the Great Loop next Spring. When we get done, we will poke around South Florida, the Keys, Dry Tortugas, and Bahamas next winter. The following Summer we plan to take the Inside Passage to Glacer Bay National Park and cruise around Puget Sound.

For us, it's just adding something to the list every year! As long as you can do that, you're still around and kicking whether you actually DO any of them or not. :thup

Certainly an exercise in relativity....I would be happy to just make it to the ramp on time, the motor start, the fish bite and then make it back to the ramp without this @@%$%& Yamaha %^%# breaking down. :amgry

Great topic!

1. San Juans (and visiting with Les and family at EQ)
2. Inside Passage
3. Lake Powell
4. Possibly re-visit the Bahamas with this boat rather than my previous trimaran

Not necessarily in that order. More on the list, but those are my top 4. Like Jim/Joan, I DON'T want to see the bottom- ha.

The BC Bucket List (we're working on "ticking them off"):

BC Gulf Islands
Princess Louisa Inlet
Desolation Sound
Broughton Islands
Nootka Sound
Tofino Area
Barkley Sound
Central Coast (Hakai/Bella Coola/Klemtu)
Nisga'a/ Portland Inlet
Gwaii Haanas Park

The North America Bucket List:

Glacier Bay, Alaska
Lake Powell
Sea of Cortez
North Channel
Georgian Bay Islands
Rideau Canal
The Great Loop
Coast of Maine
Coast of Labrador
Bahamas

A bit of a Canadian bias there, but we prefer things really uncrowded.

Our Bucket list, in the order we hope to achieve them:

Inside Passage
Lake Powell
Great Loop
Bahamas
Cuba
Maine/Canadian East Coast
Greenland
Europe (I haven't gotten that far in my planning so I have to leave it vague)

Choir Practice

Some places are revisits--and depending on what happens in our lives: we will be towing the Caracal behind the RV and hopefully getting up to Central Alaska again, the Great Lakes, Thousand Lakes, Thousand Islands, and Probably Nova Scotia. We have done about 2/3 of the great loop--and may finish the rest of it with the Tom Cat--as well as some trips on up the Tennessee River.

As much as we love the PNW, it is unlikely we will do it again--(have circumnavigated Vancouver Island, Inland passage 3 times, the Coast of N. America from Icey Straits to Mount Desert Island via Panama Canal, S. Pacific, the Med and Caribbean in our larger boats in years past)

Right now I would just like to find the right boat to start to enjoy some of these things.

I think that's just where it all started. You just want a little boat to putter around in. And the next thing you know, you're planning a world tour! :D
