Byrdman Has A Small Stroke

Thanks for the calls. Just real close family know I just had a small stroke. For the most part I am in great shape….well, for after a stroke….I did not loose any weight during this. Grin.

I too am amazed that I even talk a bit slower now. Words and thoughts are there, but will not come out. Then, some quick thoughts (and 4 letter words) seem to have an express lane and just fly out. Wish I could switch those. I guess the dry season will be over in mid TN soon, as crying just happens like breathing, but I am very happy.

My emails and C-Brat responses will be shorter (many now cheering..) due to the right hand kinda doing its own aerobics class at will and letting go of things just to see what noise they make when hitting the ground. Some interesting sounds, but not as good as the wonderful jazz Tom & crew provided last week in the NE.

Great Dr says what is on her mind without beating around the tree…or bush…so we got along great. Just added a couple of other pills with no recreational value ….other than life which is a great recreation in itself. The pills I have been taking more than likely kept things small thank God…..I aint done all the boating and gatherings I want to do yet.

Can’t drive a few days, and then not more than 20 minutes, for 3-4 weeks…so I will be picking up a driver for the next couple of weeks. (Great to have large family and many great friends in times like this). I sure hope Dr did not think this was going to slow me down; I will just have someone to tell slow stories to….and she feels as I do two weeks will fix a lot due to the smallness of the stroke.

Looking forward to a couple days of rest and again blessed with the US Open about to start at 10am and will be fun.

Thanks for the calls, I am reading emails and the C-Brat site, just can not respond to many of them until the aerobics class in my hand is over….and I recalled them only lasting about an hour… Humm…must be a master fitness trainer hung in there.

WOW, getting better…this only took about 40 minutes and two towels. Grin.

Love ya all and thanks for the great times. Go get on your boat and screw the little things…they do not matter. Have fun with family and friends.

Byrdman,
What a shock! Maybe someone was telling you not to stay on Chesapeake during that torrid heat spell after our gathering, and rather, boogie on home...it was a good choice.

Well, we need you: your humor, your insights and your knowledge...so follow good Dr.'s advice...take your medicine, relax on the bad stuff a little, and get well. We will all be pulling for you.

Byrdman,

wow, sad to hear the news and relieved to see you're already typing in good form. Boating won't be long in following. I'll be surrounded by family this weekend as they come down to visit for my son George's high school graduation Friday night, one of those milestones we never forget. I'm taking many out boating and shad fishing on Saturday, shooting the shotguns with one of the younger nephews that afternoon & maybe trimming his "new" used gun's butstock to custom fit with a new recoil pad -- passing the torch of things that I cherish to those that I love.

hang in there,

CW

Thanks for letting us know Patrick. And only your family knows huh. So thanks for including us in your family also. The body is a wonderful piece of work. Healing will come, and you will be able to knock out an email like your last one, in a matter of minutes.
Take care and do what the good doctor says. She knows best, usually.

Brother Byrd,

So sorry to hear this, but grateful our friend is still with us. We send our hopes, prayers, and good wishes that your recovery will be fast and complete. Slow... clumsy... a bit cranky? Hell, who is going to notice that with this crowd? Please take care and keep us posted... the keyboard will be good therapy (in more ways than one).

Our best thoughts sent your way,
Jim & Joan

Hey Bro, hang in there. You're gonna be on first name terms with the vampires at the local blood lab real soon, and it never ends, but those little phlebotomist sticks are far far better than the alternative.

Take care, plan on sending us weekly updates, and you'll be back on the water in no time.

Hug the bride (who must still be in shock) and enjoy the attention. How's your mom taking it?

Mary, Don, and Joey (AKA "Fonzie")

bummer, hang in there and take care, you'll be back to boating and eating all that southern deep fried cuisine in no time.

get well amigo

OK, it's like trying to start your kicker. Do what they tell you and take your pills. You'll be purring along before you know it. All the best , MartyP

Hi Patrick,
Sorry too hear about the stroke, I'm wishing you a rapid and complete recovery. Try not to get to frustrated I know that's easier said then done.
Chuck

I'm grateful that you (and I and the rest of us) have this great group of friends to support us through good times and bad. Get well soon!

Byrdman,
When I first read the title of this thread about "small stroke", I was hoping that you were referring to the acquisition of a 2 stroke outboard.....no such news.
It would seem that posting on this site will be a great activity for your healing process. (Heck, your Dr. may prescribe this site to others for therapy.. :wink ).
Our thoughts and prayers are with you for a quick recovery!

Really sorry to hear this. But modern medicine is nothing short of miraculous. I have a close friend who went through the same thing and actually is just about good as new. I have a hunch there are a lot of us on here that have been through experiences something similar and are doing well because of modern medicine, and our boats. Think how depressing it would be if you didn't have the boats to look forward to.

Pat-
I'm typing this slow so you can keep up..... Your sense of humor and zest for life along with following the doctors orders will get you through this.
My mom had a very similar type of stroke just two months ago and is doing fine. After a few weeks she was just as ornery as ever.
Take care and hope to see you on the left coast soon.

Pat,Get your lazy butt out of bed and start doing push-ups, okay? Been following your condition closely via Les. Just do what the doc sez and get back on the boat. BTDT -- got my attention too. Come on out here, bud, and we'll get you well!! :thup :thup

Sorry to hear this, Byrdman. I guess if you're going to have a stroke, a small one is the way to go! It certainly sounds like your sense of humor was unaffected :smile .

I hope the next couple of weeks will find you making great progress, and you'll be back to boating soon.

Hi Pat I Hope all is well do what the Dr. tells you get better Cause we need you The Applachcola Gathering wouldn't be good without you . So get better and see you soon .Our prayers are with you Jim and Loree on the Duck.

Patrick,

I'm so sorry to hear of your stroke. It's nice to know that you are on the road to recovery and hopefully we'll be seeing you back on the water real soon. I was so grateful when you took the time to email me back when I had sinus surgery. Now it's my turn to say, get well soon!!!
