Boat Owners Dream Garage

Any garage on my property that I could get my boat into would be a dream garage. Fact is this summer I am contemplating building a roof over the boat, some walls would be nice too.

Sorry about this guys but when I attempted posting this earlier today I had to abort due to not being able to "convert" the material so as to present on this website. By not clicking "submit", I assumed it would not appear but that was not to be! I have it in an "Email format" and will forward to anyone who provides me their "Email address". Its really a very interesting and unusual structure worth the time to view. Please Email me direct at: N9DXC@hotmail.com Cheers,

We built a simple cover over our boat using 9 pieces of 4" well casing. Local farmer had a bunch of it that he used for fence posts and sold it cheap enough to stick 9 of them in the ground with a 12" square piece of flat steel on the bottom (in Fairbanks I needed something to keep the frost heaves from moving the posts). Once we had that, just added 2X4 rectangle steel tube making a grid across the tops. Put all weather wood rafters up and 1X6 stringers across the top of them. Added steel roofing and have a roof that deals with the snow and ice. Keep the boat on one side and the camper on the other. Total costs were less than $1000. This is the first winter and we didn't get a lot of snow - if we get a heavy snow load on it will have to rake it off. But sure makes it easy to put the boat away for the winter (all 7 months of it).
Still dreaming of spring

Having spent five long winters stationed in Michigan breaking ice, the thing that hit me about this, was that if I had that much money, that boat house sure wouldn't be someplace as cold as Charlevoix.

:thup :hot

When I was younger, I thought that a 4 car garage with a one bedroom apartment above it would be just right. That beautiful boat house was spectacular... maybe something just a bit smaller? 8)

A friend of ours is a neighbor of John Winn who just happens to own (or owned) Four Winns Boats. When we were up there last Summer with C-Batical we pulled in to an adjacent dock. The boats are so big in this area and the docks so high that my radar was just about dock level. As far as I know this facility is for sale as are many other opulent homes because of the down turn in the economy; particularly here in Michigan. I have a few photos in my photo album in a sub album titled: Ludington and Ports North.

Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical

Thanks for sharing that.

Charlevoix Michigan is one of our favorite ports. They have a number of large homes with large boat houses, but I'm guessing not quite as fancy as this one. We have taken the dingy around Round Lake to get a closer look, but never did I imagine a boat house like that.

We had no doubt that there was "money" in Charlevoix, now we know for sure.

Boat house and the wooden boats just beautiful. I'll bet the folks that received the money to produce the overall effect were plenty happy to get and do the work and it appeared some real craftsmen were involved.

Wow!!! And I thought I was living it big when we built a 42 x 27 garage to store the motorhome, the c-dory 22, and a car or two out of the snow. What he built is awesome.....

I did pass by his house. His is the one on the lower left. I was taking a picture of a chow boat in Round lake at the time. The second picture is just the unique chow boat.
