... However, there are those hidden items, such as corrosion or salt deposits in the engine cooling passages, due to not rinsing the motor with fresh and or salt a away after running in salt water.

Then buying a used salt water boat and replacing the engine would be more cost effective than buying a new boat with a new engine. However, it's not my money, so whatever....

One 25 owner didn't do a sea trial or mechanic survey, on a boat kept on a lift and apparently not flushed. On is first use of the boat, it overheated, and the mechanic found extensive corrosion and occlusion of passages. New motor was $15,000. He had paid "full price" for the boat....No discount for the bad motor....Yes it was less expensive than a new boat--but the boat had some issues also. I didn't think it was a "good buy".

That's a good point and could be true. Definitely another way to look at it. My family has boats in Indiana, Kentucky and Florida that are all well maintained. The Florida ones have more wear and corrosion despite being cleaned, flushed and put on a lift after each use.

I certainly wouldn't ignore a good deal on a well maintained salt water boat but recently the high used prices have had me thinking new makes more sense. I'm not sure what to do about the marina slip though. I guess I'll need to sign up for a few waiting list or buy a boat just for the slip and trade for a c-dory...

Don’t count on seeing a C-Dory at the Seattle boat show. There weren’t any last year. I called Northwest Marine Industries (nmiboats.com) in Bellingham, who directed me to their biggest local dealer in Mt. Vernon. The response: not enough inventory to supply the demand, and a wait list over a year long. So why pay to advertise?
